Other than chrysler flipping them verticle on the 13 & 14 trucks, and now using 9006 bulbs, likely everything else is the same. From 2009 to 2012, i think they used the 9145 bulbs which were only 42watts. At least they jumped up to 55watt bulbs in the 13 & 14 fogs, BUT, the pattern SUCKS BIGTIME...!!!! I myself hate the verticle fogs, and i`m still looking for more useful lighting from them. I`m looking to switch out the 9006 bulbs to the 9012HIR bulbs which are far brighter, same kelvin color rating, and have the same base style and connector.

I put 9005 bulbs into mine, just had to shave 2 ribs smooth to get it to fit right. I didnt know at the time I bought the new bulbs that they went to 9006's or I would of bought that but at a brighter level.

I changed mine out to GTX LED bulbs that put out 6500K color. They are a lot brighter than the stock 9006 bulbs....
If you changed them out to 6500K, you went backwards in lighting ability.
6500K will seem brighter to the eye when you stare into them, but the higher the kelvin`color, the less lighting ability you`ll have. The stock OEM 9006 is closer to 3500K to 4000K, which will shine out farther but with more yellowish/white hue. The 6500K will have more of a blueish hue, blue hue cancels out white light. The higher the kelvin`s, the more worse it becomes. But if you`re happy with what you got, thats all that matters.

Keep in mind, brighter dosent always meen better.

Funny that I just saw this thread. FedEx just dropped off my PIAA Crystal Ion 9006s about 2 hrs ago. I've had these PIAAs in many previous car/motorcycles/snowmobiles/trucks. Always my favorite. They're pricey though. I found them on Amazon for $60.

Hey Pete,
Just saw this post and had a question or two. I too use to have Ion Crystal's in the past and want to do the same as you did (should have our ED in about a month, in storage right now). Now that you've had them for a while, have you had any issues? Premature burn out or fit? Also w/the vertical layout of the fog light housing, any complaints from on-coming traffic? LOVE that yellow blue rainbow affect towards the edges that ions produce!

No problems at all. I have them on everyday for about 1.5 hrs in my commute to and from work. They fit perfect. No issues with on-coming traffic. As a matter of fact, I raised them up more and I get much more useable light out of them...still no issues with the on-coming traffic. I also bought another set and put them in my high beams. :smiley_thumbs_up:

Just installed a pair of Sylvania zXe 9006 bulbs in the foglights. Definite improvement. Has a nice white light to it (4200 Kelvin).
These are made with Xenon gas in the bulb.
They're aimed way too low to shine in anyone's eyes coming toward you. Worth the $55 to me just to get rid of the yellowish foglights and into a white light.
I don't see any fog in my area so for me, a whiter light is much better.

Yellow tinted bulbs are great for rain/snow/fog driving. When I was stationed in Germany, almost every car had them....many even had them as low beams for that very reason.
Kinda like those yellow sunglass`s they sell on tv infomercials...lol
I myself, find any tint colored bulb to be very annoying installed in on-coming vehicles.
And i cant say that the yellow tint bulbs are better or not, i`ve never installed any on my vehicles.

I've got the PIAA extreme white in mine now. great improvement on lighting up the road right in front of the truck. i needed it since the 2.5" level went in.

PIAA is now making LED's for the foglights in the 14 ram. they look great, but pricey!

I know you have a 2014 but for my 2010 I put in LED fog bulbs (which also come in 9006) and they are rated at 3600lumen/bulb which I never believed until I put in and these were to replace the HIDS I had in and I can say they are just as bright if not brighter and produce a nice clean beam. Definitely recommend these as direct plug and play, took me 5 min to install.

Where did you get those? You could also put them in the high beams.
