Hey anyone know if its bad to leave the engine light on if its this code p-0420? It means o2 sensor or cats i think?

Ya the code i got was 0420. The guy i got off said that its because he put regular gas in it. He says i needed to run with 89 octane becasue of the emisson is that why its on?

Thanks for the reply. It has 168000km and it runs fine with the engine light on. How do i know of the o2 sensor is done and how much is a new one roughly?

Haha km lol. Thanks man. People say that with the light o n thier gas milage went down. Is that true or it wont effect that?

Ok. I am thinking of putting an exhaust or doing a cutout. That wont turn the light off or will ot?

Mine would occasionally run rough and the light would flash. I had a p0300 "Random misfire". I replaced both upstream 02 sensors and that fixed it.

Oh and much were your o2 sensors?

Ok i dont know to much about trucks so how easy is it to find the wireing harness like it goes off the o2 sensor?

Ok thanks. One more question. If i inbolt my muffler and tail pipe and leave it off is the exhaust going to all go in my cab or it will be fine?

So even with a turn down it will go in the cab?

So how long is a turn down like is it just a straight 90° angle or it clamps on you exhaust and goes back a bit then turns down?

So if theres no muffler is the exhaust going to choke you out in the can or it wont be bad lol?

K so ill put the tail pipe back on for safety. But if i replace the muffler with flex pipe will exhaust clamps seal it enough or do i have to weld it?

But i have like fittings on the end just the middle is flex pipe that would work hey?

So with the code p-0420 that isnt hard on anything its just a sensor?

What's a km?????

That's roughly 100,000 miles and that's a fair amount of mileage. It is possible the sensor is faulty. Also possible the cat is clogged.

If it's running fine I'd try the sensor. Although you don't really need to replace them if it is running ok and the light doesn't bother you too much. It's just an emissions thing, it doesn't effect the truck in any other way. Now, if the truck starts running poorly it could be a clogged cat.
I'd guess a new downstream sensor is ~$50 to $100.

So can u tell if a o2 sensor is hooped or u just have to change it?
