check engine light - P000B

Checking if anyone else has had this issue and how they cleared it up.

My check engine light came on about 3 months ago; code reader reported P000B - "Bank 1 Camshaft 2 Position Slow Response". Checking online, causes include:
  • ENGINE OIL LEVEL LOW
  • ENGINE OIL AERATED OR CONTAMINATED
  • INCORRECT ENGINE OIL FILTER
  • INSUFFICIENT OIL PRESSURE DUE TO A MECHANICAL FAILURE IN THE OILING SYSTEM
  • VVT INTAKE SOLENOID 1/1 FAULTY OR INTERMITTENTLY BINDING/STICKING
  • CAMSHAFT 1/1 OIL CONTROL VALVE FAULTY OR INTERMITTENTLY BINDING/STICKING SPOOL VALVE
  • CAMSHAFT 1/1 PHASER FAULTY OR INTERMITTENTLY BINDING/STICKING
  • POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

It is a 2011 Ram 1500 with 5.7 Hemi 2WD with 166k miles. And it is running fine. No issues with engine power, gas mileage is consistent (I have recorded every fill-up). Just took a trip to the North Carolina mountains, no issues on mountain roads. The truck lived in my garage for 12 years, seldom carries a load or a trailer. Basically, a 'babied' truck!

I have ruled out the first three. I change the oil every 5k or 6 months whether it needs it or not with name brand synthetic oil. At my last oil change I added 1 QT of Marvel Mystery Oil at my son's recommendation.

I replaced the camshaft position sensor (easy replacement, ONE 10mm bolt)

In the last three months the check engine light will turn off for a day or two, then back on. It stayed off for four days after replacing the camshaft position sensor (and disconnecting battery), then back on.

I DON'T think I am doing damage to engine, but not 100% sure. Dealer wants to tear engine apart to check timing belt, camshafts, and sensors.

Suggestions? Ideas? Thoughts?
