our2004 Ram 1500 4x4 started making a chiming sound while in traffic today, at first it would do it only once then it would chime two times then it did it three times .later in the day after sitting a couple of hours I took the truck out and it chimed two times . I checked everything ,everything is normal. I ran a code check and it said no faults. any Ideas.

Check under your seat to make sure your seat belt warning harness is tight. Could be a million, OK... OK, couple different things. You could have a loose bulb. The puter is sensing some issue and trying to let you know about it.

We checked all the lights, and nothing is loose under the seats.

You got me, then. How often does it chime? Does it happen going over bumps or on a rough road? Any consistency to the chime?

sounds to me like the chime that goes off if you leave your headlites on after you shut your engine off
once in awhile my 99 ram 1500's seatbelt light come on for a few day's while driving,then it shuts off
I just chalked it up to 144,000 miles and counting
might be just a bad connection somewhere.

It just started on Saturday. We were on the expressway in traffic doing 70 mph. Then later I took a ride locally and it did it again. I'm taking it to our local repair shop tomorrow.

I believe only a open door switch or drivers seat belt switch makes a series of dinging
There may also be another switch that is acting up, my Ram will ding several times if i am not in the seat & the key is still in the ignition
My Ram makes just 1 ding when the fuel level is getting low

I don't know if I fixed it or not but I found the powersteering fluid low today .I added 6 ozs. today and it may be my seat belt extenders .I'm taking it out for a while tomorrow. About a half hour before the problem started my wife was turning the dimmer wheel for the lights.
