Hi guys, I have two questions for you all 1) I pull a 32ft enclosed trailer and was told if i chip my truck that it would put to much strain on tranny and take it out. Is this true?... 2) I was told there are 3 mufflers under it and if i was to take the one that's under the box out and replace with a pipe i would gain horse and gas mileage. Is there any fact to that as well ?
My pickup is an 05 5.7 Hemi ...

I have a bully dog tuner and power wise, there is a noticable difference.. MPG wise.. no. Worse maybe even... maybe thats just winter fuel, but certainly not better... As for the exhaust there are 2 mufflers in line.. i whacked both of mine off and did a flowmaster cat-back system and it sounds MEAN but again.. no MPG improvement... and when i say no improvement I mean nothing to write home about.. maybe im getting .2 more? I only get 14MPG avg anyways.. 16 or so highway and 12 city..

Does your truck have MDS? If so, then you may have a muffler and at least one, possibly two, resonators. I had two on mine. One right after the y-pipe and one after the main muffler. I cut both out and did a magnaflow cat-back exhaust. I'm not sure I got any MPG increase but the power and throttle responce is improved. I don't have any experience with chips, but I would like to get a superchips tuner at some point. My understanding is depending on which tune you use, you will see different results. And I believe most tuners have a towing specific tune.

I have superchips tuner and put full exhaust replacement on mid length headers, after market cats, x-pipe muffler and I small minimal MPG gain; HP gain yes. I have never measure HP, but peddle response was much different. MPG wise I went from about 13 - 13.5 before exhaust to 13.5 - 14'ish on a tank; highway I am at 17 if I can keep my foot out of it or 15.5'ish at my normal speed.

I have also done K&N filter and MSD ignition without noticeable changes in MPG.

Tracking down non-ethanol fuel has helped me more than anything on MPG.
