I have this same problem and it just started after the holidays. I'm gonna see what the dealer says about it on Tuesday when I take it in for the rear pinion nut recall which they have to do the complete rebuild. Hopefully they will look after me since I don't have warrenty anymore on my 09 CC Laramie.

So this issue has been a curse for my truck.

I've got a 2009 1500 4x4 CC Laramie, and I have had to deal with this 5 times. The first time, it was of course covered by the recall. Time #2, I argued with the service guys and they covered the fix at no cost because it obviously wasn't done right the first time. Time #3, I was deployed and my wife brought it in and they charged her $250 to fix it. Occurrence #4, I was home and brought it in and the young service guy just said, oh this is the recall and didn't charge me.

Now, for the 5th time, I brought my truck in and they want to charge me $870. The service rep told me, oh this is the drivers side gear this time not the recall issue. I told him he was full of crap, then he tells me maybe we can negotiate the cost of the fix. I tell him well that must mean you truly are trying to screw me.

I'm calling the number on the recall sheet today. Wish I had seen the phone number before (eh, stupid me). Although the do it yourself fix is really looking interesting to me! I may give it a try, after I drive to a different dodge dealer to buy a new actuator!

Anybody have any thoughts or recommendations ? So far, I'm the only person Ive seen on the forum to need multi-fixes and it never solves the issue?

I have the same problem and of course mine stops working when I just worked a ten hour shift and come out of work to over a foot of snow and no defroster. Called the dealership who says the recall has already been done so they are not sure they could replace the actuator under the recall. I got of the phone with Chrysler and they told me the same thing it may not be fixed under the recall even tho it has failed after the recall has already been done. At this point I'm not very happy. It is only a 25$ part but why the hell wouldn't they replace it free of charge when there was a recall on two actuators and the reprogram of the module. They guy from Chrysler said they only replaced the actuators if they seemed to be damaged well maybe they were slightly damaged at the time of the recall and not replaced and now they failed.. This should be a no questions no cost repair if you ask me seeing there is a recall for it. Anyone else have this problem with the dealer/ chrysler?

I know this thread is older and has not been active for about a year but I purchased a 2009 ram 1500 about 5 months ago and have been battling this issue ever since. As much as I love Dodge trucks its making me want to sell this piece. Since it is obviously out of warranty by now and the recall work update to the controller was done already (prior to me owning the truck) the dealership refuses to do it for free. So I ended up buying the actuator and fixing it myself (about 20 minute job start to finish and $30 part for one actuator). All is good for about a week, than it starts clicking and wont go to upper again. So I take the actuator part and it looks fine, back up to Oreilly to get replace (lifetime warranty). Attempt 2 works for a a few weeks but makes a squish noise when the truck is first turned on. It almost sounds like it is over-tightening it. So I finally say screw it and take it to my local dealer. They agree to look at it for an inspection fee $55 and if its the recall they will waive the fee. So after they look at it they come back and say its not anything to do with the recall it is the actuator behind the glove box and the controller does not need flashed.....itll be $570 for repair 4 hours of work! i tell them no obviously because I know how cheap the parts are and that I can do the work in under 1 myself. So I go home and purchase 2 more actuators and replace all 3 of them. STILL clicking and wont switch to upper!! Does anyone have any ideas or know a way to update the controller without the dang dealer???

Did you ever find a solution for this issue? My 2012 is having the same issue. I have replaced my actuator twice now and they both only worked for about 2 days before they started clicking again.

Thanks, under dash clicking fixed

Had the flapping noise so went to drop truck off at dodge. Couldn't get it in for three weeks. Had to make an appt. Pathetic. Any way read all the good fixes so decided to repair myself. Pulled the dash center and found the actuator that was thumping. Removed, took apart and founf some teeth missing on some of the internal gears. Turned the gears 180 degrees and reassembled. No more flapping and air circulates in all modes! Thanks for all the good input and pics.

sorry to bring this up from a while ago but having a hard tome finding something like this. so i have 2009 1500 laramie and i was having a knocking sound under my dash when i tried to switch which way i wanted the a/c or heat to blow and woth winter coming it would be nice to change it to blow on the windshield. anyways i did a little reading and decided to change the door blend acuator out from behind the radio the part costed me 50 dollars and did it in about a hour. it fixed the problem for about a month then it started making that knocking noise again and cant change it. so once again i changed it and it only lasted two weeks. just asking if there is a bigger problem then just the acuator or maybe a better part that wont strip or break so easy. thanks

So I'm having an issue with mine. I've replaced all 3 actuators on my 2010 Dodge Ram Laramie. I tried to trouble shoot it and removed all actuators. Still clicking so I knew it wasn't an actuator. What else could it be and could I fix it?

Had this issue and fixed it myself. Mine was behind the glove box, so all I had to do was remove the glove box with my hands(30 seconds maybe) and remove two screws. Put the new part and glove box on and done. Took me ten minutes total. Autozone had the actuator in stock for $30. The dealer quoted me for an hour and a half labor at $120 per hour which would have been $180 just for labor. YouTube has a couple really good videos. Remember that there are 5 of these actuators in different locations in the dash.
