Hey everyone, I had to replace the engine in my 2012 ram 1500 5.7 Hemi Outdoorsman and for the warranty I had my trusted shop do the work and all seems well so far except I have come to realize that if my traction light comes on for any reason my truck shuts everything down except for the engine like a split second and the only real reason I know anything happened is the ding and restart of the radio...I have since taken it back to them and paid more money to have them reset the computers and such and was told it seemed like they weren't communicating properly and then just yesterday this happened again when I went to take off and my tires spun from all the gravel on the roads...has anyone else experienced this or have ideas? I just cant keep throwing money in and I need to make a trip from MT to FL and back in about a month so anything is appreciated and thanks!

Was the engine replaced under warranty? I'm confused by the statement about "for the warranty I had my trusted shop do the work".

What happens if you turn traction control off?

Any details other than the computers didn't seem to be communicating properly?

I don't have the answer, I'm hoping the questions will provide info for the techs here.

I was going to replace the engine myself but the engine came with a 7 year warranty if replaced by a shop which is why I had them install it...sorry about the confusion...I had been told it could possibly be the torque converter which I hope not...afraid of that replacement cost lol...I hadnt thought of turning off traction control honestly...thanks so much

I don't see why the torque converter would shut down the electronics on the truck. I would consider having a dealer tech diagnose it before throwing money at parts.

Not that this will be helpful, but can you tell us why you had the engine replaced on a 2012? How many miles?

I am asking because my 2012 (with 45k miles) is currently at the dealer right now.....several issues, including a leaking exhaust manifold, leaking tranny cooler pipes/hoses......but the big one is a lower engine noise...makes it sound like a diesel......

truck has been sitting on the dealer lot 3 days now with no work performed , waiting for answers from Chrysler's extended service contract people. And the dealer says they cant authorize a rental until the warranty work is authorized.
