Today we decided to hook up the old brake controller. We decided to hard wire the controller instead of waiting for the adapter (bad decision 1). Prior to the hook up we volt tested the wires on the factory plug in to determine the wiring. The Yellow with red tracer had 12.5 volts. Now the controller is hooked up we lost voltage. We unhooked all wires and still no voltage. I've looked through the fuse box and I'm lost here. Does anyone know where the fuse for the brake controller might be? I've checked almost every fuse in the box (pulling out 1 by 1). I know there are some areas in the box that state Tow. Do these areas need fuses added? Any help with this sure would help a feller out in a pinch. Need trailer brakes to get out of town.

Also, brake lights will not work with key off. work fine with key on. Is this normal?

THANKS A MILLION! I looked and looked and could not find a blown fuse. Flash light at the right angle and sure enough it was JO2. Where the heck do you find one of those funky 30 amp fuses?

Can anyone help with the wiring? From what we checked was as follows;
Yellow with tracer + hot
white with tracer brake light
Green ground
black brakes
?

For future reference this is what I came up with;

truck trailer brake controller wires

1. Yellow with Red Tracer is power
2. White with Purple Tracer is Stoplight
3. Green is Trailer brakes
4. Black is Ground

fuse is J2 30 amp cost $4.59 a piece

This is for a 2011 Ram 1500 cc 4x4 5.7L
