Hi reefer451,I've experienced non-functioning cruise control a couple of times. I mostly drive around town & to work so don't use the cruise on a daily basis. Then when I want to use it after a few weeks it doesn't want to turn on. So far, if I jab the button a bunch of times (5-10) it finally comes on. Seems to me like it's building up some oxide on the contacts and just need to wear it off to make contact. If I try it again within a few days it works. The problem with that is it will just get worse. So I need to not use it for awhile and then see if I can get it to fail for the dealer before my warranty runs out. Don't want to have to pay to fix it down the road. I really love the cruise on road trips.
I have a real problem with having to flash the computers in all this new gear. Not just cars but pretty much everything you buy. If it's worked for a couple of years why the he!! should it need a flash to keep working? It's not like it's on the internet and we need security updates or anything. How can it just stop working? I'm pretty sure mine needs a new switch, I do need to take it in soon while it still has warranty, no way I'm buying an overpriced extended warranty. Never have and never will.OK guys, I took my truck to a dealer so they could check out the CC not working intermittently issue. The tech found 2 stored codes, one for low voltage and one for CC not being read or something... The tech also said that the truck was due for 2 computer flashes according to the factory. I took the truck to another dealer to get fixed (long story) But all they did was complete the 2 computer flashes to fix the problem. first flash was for PCM and second flash was for RFH.
Side note: I also experienced my steering wheel radio controls not working along with the actual in dash radio volume knob not working. You could see the radio was on and working but no sound whatsoever. I had to push the media button and then the radio button before the sound actually came on. Then all the steering wheel buttons worked and the volume knob on the dash unit worked again. Dealer was aware of this as well. They said all issues were fixed with those 2 computer flashes.
Naturally these computer flashes are covered under warranty but only for the length of the bumper to bumper warranty (3yr/36k) So get your trucks in and fixed before you run out of warranty guys.
Hi Jetlag,I'm having cruise control issues after having the exhaust studs replaced on both sides. I bought the truck new, never a problem for 40,000 miles. Dealer replaced exhaust studs, cruise didn't work for the first hour then came on and worked perfectly for the next 300 miles. A few days later left to go home, cruise would not turn on for the first hour, then worked perfectly for a couple hundred miles. Stopped for gas and it hasn't worked since. Have an appointment Thursday with same dealer to look at cruise problem. Maybe a coincidence and it's a switch but I'm thinking something they did when working under the hood. Any suggestions, or has anyone had the same issue?
