Hey all, for those of you who are looking a different way to carry bikes on your trucks this is my bike rack. It’s a custom made tool box from a local fab shop (any regular one will do) with 4 Yakima bedheads bolted to the front with a mated TruXedo roll up tonneau cover.

I love this set up because I can still fit 4 people in my truck and securely mount four bikes in my bed. All of the gear is locked away in the tool box kept dry and secure freeing up cab space. When the bikes aren’t in the back I just roll out my tonneau cover and can keep things locked up in the tool box or hidden under the tonneau for a nice sleek look.

Total cost $1200. It was $450 for the toll box, $550 for the Truxedo and $20 for each bed head.

Not bad man. I made this one for the box of my truck. Roughly $50 to make, I don't need to take my wheels off, and made the spacing right so the tire in pinched to hold it in, then I just put a strap around the piping and my wheel as extra safety. No pics of it in my truck yet though. I got it in, and it works great.

Nice! I like the sleek look without having to take the front wheel off. The reason I went with the box set up was to keep my equipment dry and out of the truck (helmets, camelbacks, shoes...)

To keep the bikes safe and secure (from and anti-theft point of view) I bought a 10ft cable and a thick On-Gaurd U-lock. I choked the tie down in the back of the truck with one end of the cable and then feed the other end of the cable through the frames of the bikes, loop the U-lock though the tie down in the opposite side of the truck and secure the cable.... so far no issues and it takes less then a min.

Good eye on the 29'er. I noticed you have one in your truck, but its much easier to see it.

I was going to do similar style but mount the bed heads right to the box behind the cab, but I have a through axle which creates more work, and I just need/want simple, toss over the side. But that said, abs pipe has some flex to it, so my bike tends to wiggle around more then I would like. I'm still working on best way to secure my rack down. Then I have a planet bike chain and u-lock to lock mine. I never thought about the box to keep the gear in (would make it a lot easier then carrying it in and out every day I ride). As for space in the truck, I'll never be the guy stuck in the back with the gear, guess your nicer to your friends then me!

And I am jealous your in BC, if I lived there I would need a nice downhill bike. I am hoping to get out there next year and spend a week riding. So pumped to do it.
