I visited my local dealership today, i told the first sales guy that i wanted to buy a 2015 Ram 1500, he puffed up like he was in charge
He was so young that he could have been my grandson & i more or less blew him off.
I told him that i wanted to speak with someone in the VIP Sales, his chest deflated & went to a table where 3 other salesmen were sitting, he spoke to another young guy & he came over & shook my hand & asked what he could do for me.
I told him that i wanted to buy a 2015 Ram 1500 Eco Diesel & that i wanted some kind of work sheet, even for 2014, to study while i was on vacation, so that i could choose everything that I wanted on the new Ram, he said that he would see what he could do. He walked into a office with a door & closed it & came right back out, he was not in there for 3 minutes. He came back out & said that he didn't have any kind of Order form for 2014 Rams that i could get printed out
He said that i would have to come in when i was ready to place an order & that we had to sit down & fill it out on the computer.

I told him straight out that i wanted a full explanation of the different Packages & Equipment Groups, he straight out said that the groups were what they were & that he could find me a pamphlet. I told him that i had every pamphlet that Ram put out for 2014.
I then mentioned that i wanted the TOW Package, but that i did NOT want the Tow Mirrors, he said that it was not possible.
I politely told him that i knew that they had Packages with what they call DELETES, like if i wanted a Ram 1500 with NO badges, i could order a BADGE DELETE & it would not have any badges on the sides or extra badges on the tailgate of the Ram. It would just come with the front & rear Rams Heads

Just then i heard the first salesman say Sorry JOHN to the guy that i was talking to

Then i told the salesman that i knew that i could not put in my order for a 2015 Ram 1500 until August 8th & that production would not start until October, except for the few Rams that would be at the Texas State Fair, & that the first 2015 Rams would not be at the dealerships until around the Xmas Holidays. His eyes glazed over :)

Then i asked what i would have to do to get any paint color besides Black, Blue, White, or Red, he said if that was the color options, that would be my choices, I asked what about the color choices that Fleet vehicles could get, like Oranges & Yellows, he said that he would have to check on that.

Then i dropped the big bomb,
I told him that i was a member of Treadlightly & therefore would be using that discount because they are a Chrysler Affiliate & that i would be paying somewhere around 1% below the Invoice Price

At that point he was just wanting to get away from me

I love it when i can make salesmen squirm

The reality is that he probably does not have any or much information on the 2015 models at this point. And you were asking him questions that he doesn't hear often... fleet colors. So he is supposed to wait on you hand and foot for a sale where he'll make the minimum commission possible six months from now? I hope someone comes to you place of employment, costs you time and money, just for the pleasure of making you squrim too.

I don't understand this mentality at all. Some young kid working for a living at a "not so great paying job". In walks a dude with literally no intent to buy today just to waste his time and place in line of sales guys. What do you win besides feeling "all puffed up like you were in charge"

It could be that he soon realized that you really weren't serious about buying a truck that day.

I've had similar experiences with dealership salesmen, except I'm usually not looking to speak to anybody at all. I'm just there waiting in the showroom for an oil change. It's amazing how quickly they'll leave you alone, almost not even wanting to talk casually about anything when you basically tell them you're just there killing time. They know serious buyers...and they know that it's the truck that will sell, not their sales pitch, or gimmicks, or even knowledge (or lack of) about the vehicle.

Ever since I've been buying Dodge trucks since early 2000's, I've always known more than the salespeople (at any of the 5 local dealerships) about the trucks themselves, and even what's new for the upcoming model year. They often just DON'T know or are misinformed.

It's hard to tell what your intentions were in this post. The subject title sounded as if that dealership had information about the 2015 trucks, but was not sharing it with you. Do you think that was the case, or do you think that they just don't know their stuff? Or were you just telling us about how you showed 'em who's boss?

My dad operared a gm dealership for 25 years before leaving for RVs. You should have seen him demolish the sales person when he went into buy a caddy srx. Guy didnt know what hit him.
What do you mean…did they get into a fist fight? Your dad's pummeling got him the deal he was looking for?

Not all sales people are evil scum. And not all of them deserve to be treated as you describe here. If I don't like the way a salesman is behaving, I get up and leave or ask for somebody else.

I'm certain that I got pretty nice deals on my '14 Durango in February, and '14 Ram in May without "demolishing" anybody.

No, not all sales people are evil scum. Some are just lazy. They do not want to put in the time/effort to know all the trim levels and the options they come with OR do not come with. Generally speaking, not every customer is going to be as well versed in the options/trims/etc. as some of us on the boards who put in some time and effort doing research.

With that being said, even the most knowledgeable among the sales corp is going to balk at someone who walks in off the street just to ask them what the stitch pattern is called on the Sport bucket seats.

Knowledge is power. Going into a dealer knowing exactly what you can get is the difference between leaving saying "I almost got everything I wanted." and "I got EVERYTHING I wanted."

As for their lack of knowledge on the 2015 models, has Ram even decided what will be available? Reading about options that will be available on 2015 models on car/truck news web sites or in brochures is PR work and nothing more. Don't believe me? When was the last time you got an emailed monthly health report on your truck? Seems that was in a brochure...

Maybe i didn't make it completely clear

My dealership has 4 Sales Departments, Dodge Showroom Sales, Jeep Showroom Sales, VIP Sales, Fleet/Internet Sales

When i get phone calls & mail from the Dodge Dealership
I am always told that i was to go to the VIP Sales Department, because of my relationship with that Dealership, i am in there at least once a month for Parts or Service, i bought my '09 Ram there over 5 years ago. I also try to take a couple dozen donuts with me when i go in for Service.
The Dodge Showroom Sales Dept know me pretty well, when they see me, they go out of their way to walk into the Service Dept. to say Hi

Yesterday i went into the Jeep Sales & Quick Lube building, because that is where the V.I.P. Sales Team is also located

When i walked up to the door, of course i was greeted by the Jeep Sales Team, they were lounging on the patio, it was about 75°F outside.
The first young guy, it must have been his turn to try to wrangle a sale, asked me what i would like to do with them today.

I noticed that there was only 1 customer that was in that part of the building that likely wanted to buy a Jeep, all of the other people were salesmen & in a cubicle sat the Finance Officer, 10 employees all together

I politely said that I wanted/needed some kind of work sheet that i could use as reference material for when i was ready to purchase a 2015 Ram 1500.
I also mentioned the phone calls & mail that directed me to use the VIP Sales Team.
He told me that he would see if anyone from the VIP Team was available.
He walked about 20 feet over to a corner table in the Jeep Showroom where 4 guys were sitting. He spoke directly to the other young Salesman & he stood up & walked over to introduce himself.
I was standing at the Jeep Depts front open double doors & he joined me there.
When he asked what he could do for me, i told him the same thing as i had told the other guy
I said that I wanted/needed some kind of work sheet that i could use as reference material for when i was ready to purchase a 2015 Ram 1500 & i added that it would need to have the VM Eco Diesel 3.0

What i typed in my first post was what occurred after this point .....

Both of the salesmen knew what i was there for, they had only 1 customer in the whole sales area, including the cubicles.

I was informed that they had brochures & that i should also look online at the BUILD & Price section
I let him know that i had already done that, but none of that covered the explanation for things that i wanted/needed to know
I even told him that the sheet from the 2014 Ram 1500 would work, the one that a customer & a sales person sits at a computer to fill out to make the Final Order that is sent to the Factory/Assembly Plant

He told me that there was no way for that form to be printed out

I still don't know the proper name for that Factory Order Form is

That form has the names & descriptions of all the Packages available & also the names of the possible part DELETES

ie:
Tow Package has ...

Integrated Trailer Brake
Class 4 Hitch Receiver
Tow Mirrors

There is also a Tow Mirror Delete, which is what i would want

I want to be an informed customer
I want to know what is included in the Packages
Luxury Group, Tow Group, Off Road Group & all the rest

When i walk into the Sales Office after August 8th, i want to be able to hand the salesman a list that i have made out before hand ...

If any of you know the name of that Form that they hand you that states/confirms what you just submitted to Ram for a Factory Build,
Please post it here

Everything else that i posted in the first post were just other things that i would like to know & he understood most of it & told me that he would try to get me the rest of the answers

I was just being up front with him about everything, he seemed like he was OK with the Chrysler Affiliate Discount too

Apparently most of you have not read the complaints from RamforumZ members that have ordered a factory ordered Ram

They are told that they would have a Ram that is just what they ordered

Only when it arrives, it does NOT have Side Steps
Others get their Ram without a sun roof
Several have received the Wrong rear differential ratio

There are so many complaints that i need my Ram to be EXACTLY what i want
I put a minimum of 20,000 miles a year on my trucks
I run a business of my own & don't have time for Salesmen screw ups

That is the main reason that i need that particular form, so when i walk in to make my order, they can't tell me that i screwed up & have no recourse

Most of you apparently would be happy to take anything that they give you, at least from what i have read in your comments

How many of you drive out of your driveway with your Ram at say 8 AM & pull back into your driveway at 11 Am with $175 check, i don't do labor, my Ram is what makes my money, all i do is drive it

I can drive from my place & less then 7 hours later return home with a $300 check, again no labor involved
On many occasions i have received a $700 check for driving 500 miles one way & i am home within 10 hours
All of my business is 100% legal

Something similar to this can not drive LEGALLY on the California roads without me or someone in my business being with them

When I ordered my '14 Sport back in April there was no "worksheet" from the dealer that I used. I went on the RamTrucks website and made a list of everything that I wanted and printed it out. And after reading about other special options (not listed in the build) that people have had the factory/dealer include in the sale of the truck, I wrote them down too.

When I was ready to place the order I brought in all of my paperwork and sat down with the guy at the dealership who is in charge of ordering trucks for the lot and for customers. Everything was done on his computer. He printed out the truck specs and options for me to review. Once I looked everything up and down and was satisfied with negotiated price, it was a matter of him clicking "place order". I was told that it would be 6-8 weeks.

I received shortly after a confirmation email with all options that were included and I reviewed that as well.

In June I took delivery if the truck and it was exactly the way I wanted it. It was a pretty smooth process.

Now obviously every dealership operates differently (some better than others) but everybody I dealt with was polite, reasonable, fair...and based on all of my research of what I should be paying on the sale of this truck, I know I got a great deal.

There's a difference between being knowledgable about what your getting yourself into and using that to your advantage vs. walking in with the intent to belittle everybody along the way with hardly giving folks a chance.

I never understand some of the tactics mentioned in this thread that imply that they are being nasty, arrogant, disrespectful, angry, etc. to get what you want. That's not how I like to do business, and it's certainly not how I want to remember the transactions of my car buying experiences. I get zero satisfaction out of bragging to others or even hearing about making people squirm or "demolishing" folks that could very well be good honest hardworking people. Unless I'm misinterpreting it all?

I walk into a dealership armed with all of my information. I tell them what I want and what I want to (reasonably) pay for the price of the truck. If they can't do it, I thank them for their time and leave. They always come back with something better and it's usually what I was looking for.

If that's your idea of squirm or demolish, OK. I'm with you.

I had a very good experience buying my RAM also and continue to have a great relationship with my dealer. I haven't had many problems with my RAM but the few I had were taken care of without any problems. I also get any parts I need from the Women at the parts counter wholesale.

I do this also, I have bought 6 vehicles over the past years from the same salesman. And that's with him switching dealerships that he worked at twice. I always gave him a nice bottle of liquor after each sale and I even drop off a $50 bottle of whiskey on his desk every Christmas. It goes along way, when I need service I always get in right away ( I don't need to make an appointment for same day service) and when I bought my current truck (used) all I did was call him up and tell him what I was looking for. 2 weeks later he called and said he just took what I wanted in on trade. I bought it before it ever hit the lot (after it went through the inspection for a "certified pre-owned" I go to the salesman because he knows his stuff. I can walk in and talk to him about Rams anytime even if I'm just kicking tires he still treats me like I was buying a 60k truck......

I think that i am using the wrong terminology or something
Both when i was talking to the sales person & in this forumZ

I was then & still am looking for some answers & i did find some of them

There are Groups & these Groups have a Letter(s) & a Number
all i want is a cross reference between the 2

the codes that i am looking for are similar to something like this 22T & many others
Does anyone know what i am asking about ??

like:

Luxury Group (Fleet) - $695 , ( with this there is a Sales Code, Package # ???,
i have not been able to locate it, as yet )

Illuminated ashtray in the front; Engine bay light; Illuminated driver and passenger vanity mirror; Front reading lights; Illuminated glove compartment; Garage door opener; Coming home device; Heated driver and passenger door mirrors with turn signals; Leather-trimmed, steering wheel; Steering wheel mounted remote audio controls; Auto-dimming rear view mirror; Door entry light; Excludes: [EZH] 5.7L HEMI V8 VCT Engine

_ _ _ _ _ _ ____________________________________

sometimes while you are ordering certain things, the build site will read something like:

This item is Not available with ******** 22T
for instance

Could it be called a Quick Order Package ???

I am about to give up :(

GTyankee, I would almost pay for a plane ticket for you to come with me to the dealership when I buy my next one. :)
I've learned a lot more since I started reading this forum... I wish I had before I bought my truck. Maybe would have saved me some money... :D

Why would you want to use a 2014 build sheet (that does not seem to exist as a blank, printed form), to build a 2015 truck that does not even have option packages released yet? Seems like you are asking for a mix up when package codes and contents change, asking questions that nobody has answers to, and wasting time building something on paper that can probably never be built in real life.
