Wanting to clean up my 2012 1500 big horn crew cab.
Need a little advice on removing badges. Are you using heat gun to warm them up or just prying them off? I am planning on taking the ram 1500 off of the doors and maybe moving the hemi badge up to the frontside of the front wheel-oldschool-style. Also plan on cleaning up the tailgate and leaving just the ram head in the center. thanks for any input

Just removed the LongHorn badges last week. More time consuming than you might think but it is possible. Use gloves (so you don't tear up your hands) and high strength fishing line, use a heat gun or blow dryer to heat it up real good then slide the fishing line behind a corner and slide it back and forth. Once you get a good bit of the emblem off then try to pull it off by hand by heating and slowly pulling with finger tips. Stop if you see the body panels flex or you will leave dimple or dent. Don't use screw drivers or anything metal to pry it. Once you get the emblem off if your lucky most of the sticky stuff came up with it. If your like me you wont be so lucky. Get 3M adhesive remover. I found it at NAPA parts. It is safe for automotive paint and the only thing I tried that works. I tried goo-gone with no luck. Someone said gasoline but I wont risk that on the paint for very long. Soak the adhesive remover on the stuff and scrape it off with your finger nail and rags. It will take forever but it will come off. I used a small soft rubber tint applier to scrape it off. Every once in awhile rinse the area off so when your rubbing the cloth around no contaminants get on there and cause spider webs or swirl marks. I have a black truck so they show swirls very easily. after your done you might want to wash it real good and use some polish or wax to get rid of any small swirl marks you probably made. Took me about an hour for each one of the GIGANTIC LongHorn emblems. I also removed the rear Ram head and painted it flat black and put it back on with some 3M double sided tape. Also you can be very liberal with the 3M adhesive remover. It won't hurt your paint even though it smells awful (wear a mask and do it outdoors)

I'm going to be doing mine this weekend and found a couple of good videos on Youtube showing the process. USMC42 sounds like he hit the nail on the head with adhesive remover. I have read on here also that some guys will use a "pinstripe removal wheel" that is available from NAPA for around $15.00 so I'm going to look into that also. Good luck with the mod!

I'm wondering also if anybody has tried WD-40 to attack the adhesive? I have used it on some of my bikes to remove the warning stickers and it usually works pretty good.

before you waste time and money on a removal wheel and make a hot mess out fo your doors please read my thread on it. To each his own but i really think the way i did it is the least comlpicated and least messy.

i just debadged my 2012 truck this week. i used a 1 1/2" wide spackle type tool,poured a little goo gone on top of the badge,put a microfiber towel over the tool,worked it into a corner of the badge,lifted up the edge as much as possible and pulled the rest off by hand when i had enough to grab.then just took off whatever rubber was still on by hand,and used the goo gone with another microfiber towel to get off whatever glue was left. the key is to just go slow, and after each badge is off move the position on the microfiber towel on the tool to a fresh spot so it doesnt rip through. it seriously took me all of 15-20 minutes for the whole truck,not one scratch.

There are SEVERAL methods, most work fine, some are messier than others, some are easier than others, some are safer than others.

My opinion:

Use the method that someone else posted on this forum which is take some soft wood (like a paint stirrer stick) and sand it down to a flat edge. The wood is very soft so will not scratch the paint. Use minor heat (hairdryer) on the badges and use the stick to get under them and pry them off. Then use goo gone or similar to get the remaining gunk off the paint(TEST it in a discreet area first! Some adhesive removers will remove paint). Then wash the area with dawn/water or some sort of soap to get the chemicals off the paint. Then wax it.

Pretty easy this way and safe. I also don't like the "wheels" because they will wear down the thickness of your clear coat a bit.

When I did mine I did exactly like I described above but I used a plastic putty knife sanded to a flat edge. I didn't think to use the wood, but will do it next time.

Here is mine after debadging and rebadging. It was a piece of cake. It took longer to read all the threads about what to do and what not to do than it actually took. Let me know what you think of the Hemi badges on the hood. The truck is Sagebrush.....kind of hard to tell.

I had the door windows tinted yesterday and also put some Westin Nerf bars on. I have a Bakflip G2 tonneau cover and some EGR vent shades on the way. Hopefully I will have it leveled some time in the near future. A work in progress.

i tried the whole heat gun/floss thing. i personally dont think it worked to well. there was a lot of stickiness left over. for the last few i ended up using a plastic spackle tool with a rag over it and they seemed to just pop right off. i used a little carb cleaner and a rag to wipe off excess tape. worked well.

I debadged mine when it was about 40 degrees out. Took fishing line to get the actual badge off and then just peeled the adhesive off with my fingers. Didn't use any heat source whatsoever, came off so easily. Did the enitre truck in about an hour and a half. Everything came off so well that I didn't even need to use goo gone to get any residue off.

If the dealer will do it for $60 I might have them do it. That way it's on them if they mess up my truck
