I don't believe I'll ever buy a new vehicle, however, the express is the exception if I ever were to. Can't beat the value with that truck...

Hey, I said the same thing, but I went to dodge and mine, even though it doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles was a KILLER price. It retailed at about 31,000 dollars and all said and done, with dealer incentives, dodge incentives, and a little haggling from my part I got my truck for 23,700. I sold my old truck to a friend for a grand just to get out of it and give him a killer deal because he needed something really bad. I couldn't find a quality used truck with under 50,000 miles on it for around that price newer than an 06 or so with the same factory options. The "stripped down" model I got was power windows, locks, steering, cruise, satellite radio, 4x4, quad cab, bed liner, tinted windows, and drives like a car. I've put a few hundred here and there and all said and done here's my list

2.5" leveling kit $260 installed (I haggled with the dealer on this)
Window flares $80 shipped from amazon open box discounted
GT Styling headlight/tail light covers $129 brand new (I'm still waiting for these to come, should be tomorrow :D )
Vision 375 Warrior wheels $435 shipped to my door with everything to mount included

So for a thousand bucks, I made the truck a little more "mine" and I'm super happy with it for about a grand total of $25k.

(People are probably getting sick of that same pic over and over :D )

Anyway, its factory warranted for as long as I have a loan on it and after that I won't be making payments so I can take whatever I would have been paying and put it toward any necessary repairs. MUCH better than trying to buy a truck with 50-60k already on it and who knows how much it was driven or hammered on, no warranty, and having to both make payments AND repairs on it.

Yeah, that 6.0 powerstroke was a pile. My ford dealership locally had to have a special lift installed so they could take the entire front clip off of the stupid thing to work on the motor. Thats great engineering there...

Fine, its powercroak.....its actually not unusual to de-cab a diesel to work on, believe it or not the labor is less....Anyway, I'd like to hear from Mr Genius how he got 220k trouble free miles out of that underpowered boat anchor. That reference proves he is bogus

The 300 inline 6 was a good motor, although had bad exh manifold issues, my dad had a '77 Cougar back in the day and got 170k+ out of the 351W, and he was a twice a year oil change guy. I know a few people who have driven the hell out of the old 1.9 Escorts.....the 3.0 in the Taurus has been pretty decent also

The only mistake ford made with the 6.0 powerstroke was buying them from International. They really arent bad motors once you replace the head studs and gasket.
The 300 inline 6 was an awesome motor just like every other straight 6 motor produced. My dad bought an f150 from work, it was run for 14 miles without oil in it lol and it never missed a beat.
I did a research analysis in my dynamics class last semester about the forces on a crankshaft of an I6 vs. a V8 (cummins vs duramax specifically) it wasn't hard to see why most duramax are lucky to hit 180k miles
They actually don't put I6 in many vehicles anymore only so they can sell more new cars

eerp...I think I just threw up in my mouth a little...

I have a 2003 with a first year engine and over 120,000 miles. Other than regular maintenance items, the only reason I've replaced parts is for better performance. Must've got a lemon or got back ended by whoever 'fixed' it (because I'm pretty sure HE didn't fix it).

Best engines by ford were in order

Straight six in the f-150
460 big block in the 79 F250
427 Cobra Jet
5.0 late 80's mustang motors
4.6L Modular Mustang motor in the 2003 or so cobra.

I have a 2006 Ram with over 200,000k on it. I'm just STARTING to have to make front end repairs. I have to fix a tie rod and both wheel bearings need to be replaced, that's it. I've been in mud half way up my doors and bashed the crap out of my front end numerous times getting thru ditches and never had the issues that you speak of.

Maybe, try learning how to drive properly? I've heard it helps. So my wife keeps telling me ( hehe, as she's gone thru 3 mini vans in the past 2 years..LOL). Funny, we bought a second hand 2004 Caravan and had less issues than the Sienna and the Montana. So...

He does have a reasonable gripe about the factory front ends. The 2500 front end come with ball joints and u joints that arent grease able. That's the big problem with them but there are plenty of companies that make greaseable replacements. Your lucky to get 50k miles from a factory front end.
Actually this kindly sounds like one of my friend who just traded his cummins in on a chevy 3500 dually....
