When they say left side of the engine or right side of the engine are you looking at it from the front of the car or sitting in the car?

From a service advisors stand point it's when you're looking at the engine from the front of vehicle. Here's why: when techs and mechanics are explaining a issue or showing you something they'll say "look here on the left side of your engine where you're air intake is". You can't see the left side (or Any part of the engine) while you're sitting in the vehicle, right? Lol.

Only because most customers do not know the proper way.Service advisors and mechanics should.

How do you determine left or right side of a car?
When it comes to auto parts, the sides are determined by the position of the driver in the vehicle, facing forward. Meaning, looking over the hood, and sitting in the driver's seat, your left hand is the left side, your right hand is the right side.

Actually I have to respectfully disagree...its either passenger side or driver side. Kind of like how in the military it's either port side or starboard side. If you ever read instructions or user manual, they never say left or right side, it's driver side or Passenger side. The only time it's left or right is when a mechanic is under the hood or if you're talking about tire rotations.

True but then they'll just say passenger side or driver's side (instead of left or right).

Depends on whether you're going or coming.lol. Think about it, a left hand drive car has steering wheel on the left which makes it the left side of the car. A right hand drive car has a steering wheel on the right which makes it the righthand side of the car
Again... That's where driver's side or Passenger side makes the most sense.

If you're talking about just the vehicle and not the engine...then yes. Just like if you have a car facing you at an intersection and he's making a left turn using his turn signal...you wouldn't say right turn signal just because it's on your right even though it's his left lol. Ouch...my head.

The left bank of the engine is on the drivers side of car.Right bank= passenger side. With a transverse mounted engine, left engine bank is side of motor facing front of car.Transverse engine right bank of motor is the side closest to the firewall.
