Does anyone on this forum have an Ecodiesel with the 3.92 rear axle? I need it to do the towing I want. If yes, can you post your MPG data? I tried ordering a Tradesman with the 3.92 and actually had my dealer submit the order only to find out later they are not making it. The more expensive models allegedly had it.

I thought the EcoDiesel only came with the 3.55 but I could be wrong.

For what it's worth I have the 3.92 on my Hemi and am still beating the EPA estimates of the truck with the 3.21. With the eight speed I don't think the short rear end ratios hurt your mileage nearly as much as they did back in the days of the 4 speed transmission. I think the 3.92s and 8 speed is an awesome combo.

I have an Eco with the 3.92, so they do make them. Mine is an outdoorsman, not sure about availability on different trims. My overall mpg stands right at 24. That is about 50/50 interstate/in town with just a few highway/back road miles (2400 total miles). Only have one short tow on a 5000ish boat, but it did great.

I have ED QC Outdoorsman with a 3.92. It's only my second tank, but I was 23 on the first tank 50/50 driving. So far on the second tank I am 18 with 100% city driving. Trying to keep my head up since I was expecting more given what everyone else is seeing. Can't really blame it on 3.92 since the truck seems to want to upshift really before it should. Given the 8 speed, the 3.92 should really only be different on the highway in 8th gear. I live in Northern CA, so I am usually either going up a hill or going down.

I have 2014 ED big horn CC 6.4 bed rambox air system 3.92 gears. Hand calculated 25.3 mpg. 70% hiway 30% city. Towing my 7300lb TT I get 13.4 mph. I don't use any WD bars and I don't know I am pulling a TT.what a great truck. PS I don't miss my 2004 5.9 cummins which was a great truck.

I just finished a 4 hour trip with two of us in the cab. Brand new Michelin LTX 20's at 43PSI hot, 40 cold. Highway, hills, and back roads. 55mph highway, 35-40mph winding back roads. When I got back to where I started and reset the display, 24mpg. That's about 29mpg Imperial for us Canucks. The 3.92 axle will hold ECO mode the entire trip except some of the hills.

Thought the ED would best that by a considerable margin. The advertised highway mpg in Canada on these new diesels is 40mpg imperial, which works out to 33.3mpg US according to Mr. Elliott who also does the Canadian commercials. As a comparison, the windows sticker on a 5.7 8speed 3.92 is 31mpg highway in Canada. But our country has been a little slow adopting the more realistic mileage methods the US now has.

Got my CC 6'4 Outdoorsman last week with 3.92s with the 20" wheels. It seems like 3.92 was the only available with the Outdoorsman and no upcharge, at least for mine (May order) and the others I've seen window stickers for already on lots. I don't know about current trucks but the page lists $50 upcharge.

I have not had to fill yet, 476.8 miles and just under half tank left with the est range left at 311. Mostly commuting back at forth to work between 55-75 depending on traffic. Currently the dash indicates 24.2 mpg. Have tried out a few speeds with cruise over 10-15 mile runs, usually get interrupted by traffic or I'd run longer. It seems to like running around 60 best, but in Atlanta 60 will get you killed. Usually drive around 70 and it has been showing between 23-26 mpg, 70 turns just under 2k rpm.

I'll try to keep the thread updated as I run my truck.

I have an ED with 3.92's. Just finished a 550 mile trip around the Adirondack Mountains. Probably 100 miles of city driving, the rest was half interstate and half 2 lane. Averaged 28.1 for the trip. Just over 1,000 miles on the truck now - average 26 overall.

For the up charge`s to get into the ED, do you guys think its really going to pay off in the future for what you invested/spent...???... your MPG aren`t really impressing me that much. I`m driveing a 14 hemi QC 4x4 w/3.92 and 8-speed, knockin down 22 to 23 easily.

hi - ED owner, but 3.55's - regarding MPG... highway at 65-70mph for me using CC is 28+ mpg depending on hills and traffic. around town i'm 21-22.1 mpgs. now hook up a TT and my MPG's over a Hemi are even more dramatic.

is it worth the upgrade? i think that's dependent on the owner and what they wanted out of their truck. i wanted a diesel. i didn't need a 3/4T. i couldn't be happier with my ED truck.

my dad has a '11 1500 BigHorn w/Hemi and my MPG is dramatically higher than his in every scenario.

some people like pie, some like cake. same hate them both. the same can be applied to Hemi vs ED. I would make the same choice again.

EDIT: also the 'upcharge' from a Hemi to ED is $2800. the MPG difference over 3-4 years of normal use will make that up. if you tow frequently you'll make that up faster. diesel where i am is about .10/gal more than unleaded. i would never run unleaded so compare it to premium and diesel is about .20/gal CHEAPER. this isn't my justification, it is just one of the factors that were part of my decision to go with ED instead of hemi.

The fact that the guys I know locally, running the CC 5'7 trucks at getting at BEST 19 highway and never touch the 21 on the sticker. And using fuelly to get an average, 16 mpg for both the 2013 and 2014 trucks, makes me think the 20+ mpg club are either evic only guys or light foot drivers. Add in that often diesel on the southside of Atlanta is at or below the mid-grade price.

Estimation before ordering gave me a break even point of 25.5 months with the fuel prices closer than now but using 20 mpg Hemi and 25 diesel. On my first tank still I am already getting over 26 on the evic and will be filling tomorrow to confirm the mileage. That break even included the 2800 for the engine and 1500 difference in incentives for the SE region.
