ok here it goes i have a 1982 dodge d150 that has a slant 6 with the A833 4 speed tranny. i found a nice 318 motor i believe it is a 1972 and it has the forged crank in it and only 58,000 miles on it and i want to bolt that to my A833 tranny wiil ths work. any and all information that pertains to the complete swap is greatly appreciated thank...

Hi Brian,
You may need the bell housing for the 318. I don't know for sure but I don't think the slant 6 and the LA block share the same bolt pattern. But that should not be much of a problem to find.

Did the 318 have an automatic attached to it. I could be wrong but you may need a bearing for the end of the crank. Perhaps this isn't an issue these days.

If it was a passenger vehicle or truck 318 it will not have a forged crank. As far as I know LA318's never came with a forged crank, only the early performance 273 and the 340; the old poly head A series 318 (67 and earlier) may have come with one, but they are totally different. Swap bellhousing and you should be good.

318 or 360 bell housing is a must. Next check length of input shaft on 6-cyl version of your trans if memory serves me correct 6-cyl input is longer than v-8's. Call a local salvage yard and have them check Hollander interchange. picker
