I was driving about 35mph when the electronic power steering went out and locked on me. There was no prior warning to it locking on me and jerked the wheel straight. I was thankfully in a residential area and not on the highway yet. I saw that this was a recall issue with the 2015-2016 models, but was wondering if anyone with a 2014 RAM 1500 ST QUAD CAB 4X2 model experienced the same issue and was able to see if it was a recall on the manufactured part.

From what I gather, I feel like the system was shorted randomly.
Any possible solutions other than replacing the whole racket and pinion which is quite expensive? Would replacing a fuse work?

I have heard of any other way to fix it then to replace the unit. Do a search on the net for a rebuilt unit. I was searching a while ago and found some rebuilt units for about $800 I think. Make sure you get under the truck and inspect all the wiring and plugs going to it.
