Hello all,

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram Van 1500 with 240k miles on it. The floors recently broke through in the back, and I was getting ready to weld some new sheet metal in. The frame is all good except for the parts shown below.

Two main questions:
1. This isn't too terrible right? Again the rest of the frame looks good
2. I had only planned on welding in some 18 ga sheet metal to the floors, should I cut out a clean section of the frame too and weld some thicker metal into there?

Any insight is appreciated!

I would make sure your spring perches have solid foundations.

If it was me I would not even mess with it. Donate it to a school or something for the tax write off and buy something newer.

@14vern Thanks for the suggestion! I jumped in and checked out the spring perches and their connections. While they definitely have some rust, the ball-pean-hammer-test tells me they are still solid. That cutout of rust is about 5 inches or so away from it. Definitely not ideal, but seems ok.

@airforce26yrs wish I had the money to do that!
