Hi everybody. Brand new to this site so first time poster and reader. I'm not a skilled mechanic by any means but am a "do it myself" guy when possible, so if you are kind enough to reply, please keep that in mind with your terminology. I've got codes P0471 and P0472 reading on my 2010 6.7. My limited research indicates this is an exhaust back pressure sensor. Is this a difficult thing to replace? Where is it located on the truck? Where can I order the part? I've checked with one national parts retailer and it doesn't even show up in their computer system. Any help is truly appreciated. Thanks, Dean

There is a tube on the exhaust manifold that comes up to a sensor near the thermostat. It gets clogged with soot, just remove the sensor, take a piece of square lawn trimmer cord/string, and push it into the tube. Spin it around so it cleans out the soot. You can spray some brake clean down the tube to help. When it is cleaned out, but the sensor back on and drive it. It should go away after 3 key cycles. If it doesn't it may be the sensor, but it usually is a blocked tube. ")
Looks like you can probably fix this little issue without replacing the sensor. Try cleaning it out, cycling the key and driving it a bit to clear the code. Hope this helps!

There's a stainless tube on the exhaust manifold that runs over to the exhaust back pressure sensor. I would take both the tube and the sensor off clean them out really well to get all the soot and crap out/off of them. That should clear up your problem.

Thanks to both of you for your responses and help. I removed the sensor and tube and both were plugged. I was successful in cleaning the sensor and tube. The truck runs well but the check engine light remains on. How can I reset this light to get it back off? Again, thank you for your help - truly appreciated.

You either need to bring it to the dealership to have them erase the code or invest in your own code reader that's capable of deleting the code and getting rid of the CEL. You can find them for around $100 at most part stores. Definitely handy to have.
