Exhaust Brake not Available

I just purchased my first pickup, a used 2017 RAM 2500 with the diesel engine, Larime trim, and am loving it so far. I intend to use this truck for hauling a trailer. When I hit the exhaust brake I get this message on my dash screen that the exhaust brake is not available. When I chatted with the dealership, I was told that I do have an exhaust brake on my truck but that it's not "ready" to be used, hence the message. This information seems to suggest that the truck needs to be in a particular condition of use before the brakes become available. However, I notice that when I hit the button for the exhaust brake, that I'm not getting a yellow light on the instrument screen to indicate that it's turned on as per the manual. And where I have seen this issue discussed in forums I'm not seeing this as an issue. So, if you could help me out here, I'm thinking I'm not getting good information from the dealer, but any advice would be useful. Thanks!

Well, I took the truck to the dealership and I'm the bonehead! As I said, this is my first goat-rope with a pickup. Turns out that the button I thought was the exhaust brake on the console was the hill descent button. The service department had a young fellow come out explain things to me and show me where the exhaust brake button was, and now I know better - hopefully! I'm still wading through all the features on this truck and I suspect that might not be my first error in thinking. Thanks to all who responded to my query!

I am glad that you figured it out. It will just take some time. I have a 2017 limited 2500 mega cab 4x4 with the Cummins and when we tow our 5th wheel travel trailer, I set the exhaust break in auto.( What I haven't tried yet is the hill descend button). You will love it. It will defiantly help save on your breaks. Enjoy your truck!

glad you got it worked out and in the end it was just a RTFM problem.
