Hello everybody Im thinking about adding a exhaust to my truck and i heard that if I add a exhaust I will lose HP because Dodge come preset in so many words they come wide open already and if I change that I will lose HP R do I have anything to worry about.

Depending on what you do you will or won't lose power. Most of the exhaust is very free flowing, but the restrictive parts are the exhaust manifolds, the y pipe, and the muffler. Most people do a muffler swap and some do a y pipe swap as well. Some do headers but they are expensive and sometimes cause other problems. I would recommend swapping out the stock muffler to a straight through type like a magnaflow, then also maybe swapping to a good y pipe (magnaflow also has one).

I was thinking about flow master I dont want nothing to loud where i would hear it inside the truck i just want it to sound a little bit deeper

IMO flowmasters are not a good choice. They use a chambered design that is not free flowing. Yes it flows better than stock, but not as good as you could get for the same money. There are several companies that make straight through mufflers: Magnaflow, dynamax, borla, etc...

Flowmasters are often loud in the cab (drone) also from what I've read on the forum. You can go with a longer magnaflow or other straight through type and it shouldn't be too loud. I'd recommend an 18" or longer for you. Many go with the 14" and they are too loud for their taste. If you leave your stock resonators on also (near the tailpipe) it will help keep the drone noise under control too.

From my experience, straight through mufflers are actually pretty quiet at low rpms/low throttle, then loud when you step on the gas hard. IMO that's the best of both worlds. Many people say at idle it hardly sounds louder than stock, but it sounds "meaner".

HP gain will be minimul at best, the only time you will see great increases is if you do the exhaust with a CAI, Programmer and maybe a throttle body. I can tell you now that you will hear the 18" magnaflow in the cab at any RPM other then completly off the gas and you will hear drone and you will hear a difference in sound when the MDS kicks in. I just took out my 18" and put the stock one back on and yep, I have the stock resonators on both pipes. Some say the bigger magnaflow is much more quite but they said the same about the 18" but I'm not going to spend the money to find out just yet, maybe I'm getting too old lol.

If your running a single exhust then everything I said may not apply as I have the Longhorn that has a cat back system where one pipe goes into the muffler and then comes out as two pipes.

It will add some power, maybe 5 to 10 hp at best probably without other mods. Like scooter said when you do mods in combination you get more from them. The 18" is only slightly bigger than the 14", they also have longer mufflers that are even quieter. I think the biggest is a 30" or so, I would bet money that one is quieter than stock at idle and low rpm/low throttle. If you really don't want to hear it then get the longest muffler you can.

i agree, you won't get 5-10hp from a muffler swap..... Just like the dodge dealer saying the ram gets 28mpg........ Sure doing 70 downhill maybe. I have a flowmaster 50 series SUV muffler on my 4.7 ltr Grand Cherokee that my wife drives and it has a drone at 2000 rpm's and she hates it and wants me to put the factory muffler back on. We didn't notice and hp gains from that muffler swap. I like the sound of the muffler for sure, even at an idle it sounds deep and mean but i think that's the only benefit is the sound.

The dealer saying you'd get 28mpg is ridiculous, and no offense but you should have never believed that. All you have to do is look at the sticker for mandated, fairly accurate mpg expectations. I also never said a flowmaster would give you good hp increases. I said a straight through type muffler (like magnaflow) would. Flowmaster is hardly better than stock flow wise/performance wise.

Well if you do happen to change the muffler and find something good i would love to hear about it. i am also in the market for a new muffler.Just not impressed with the flowmaster.
