That's nice but it would really be nice if you could drop it from inside the cab.How many times when you backup to a dock to load something in the box and have to get out of the cab, drop the tailgate, get back in and finishin backing up.......just about always.

So how difficult is it to close it back up? My 2012 Laramie has torsion bars and is easy to close and will not slam down on opening. Thanks

not difficult at all, actually, its the same as what it was without it, I did not see any difference in closing it. No extra force was needed, I'm sure it must have some difference but nothing I really detect as a difference.

I seen this in the 2010 section but not here in the 2012, so if its redundant please delete it, but here goes, I picked this little mod up and installed it today, was really not expensive and took like 5min to install. Works great. Here is a short video on this cool easy mod.

I agree with notron46, why waste the money:doh: My 06 was a 2 handed close job, 2012 1 hand very easy.

Yes it is, much lighter than many of the older gen trucks, but tell you the other day it was raining and I opened the tailgate and it slipped out of my hand, it fell down pretty hard, the straps caught it, but had I had something close under, hmmmm, like a kids head, they would of gotten a nice bonk on the head, or a dent in my truck, its not a necessary item to have, but as I said "cool little add-on that don't cost much" and might one day save me from a tailgate dent. Who knows. only this butter fingers opinion, but I see where your coming from also. There are no negative opinions lol, just opinions, it takes all views for others to make decisions.

Put it on my 12 Ram and would do it again in a second. Not only is it cool but to not have to worry about the tailgate slammin one of my kids in the head is a big bonus. Heck even my wife ( who was pissed that i ordered another thing for the truck ) loves it!!!

My 2012 tailgait is so light and easy to operate, compared to my 99 and 05 that I don't see a real need for any assistance. Sorry to sound negative but the 12 is really light and easy. Norton

It's got nothing to do with closing. As the name say's EZ Down. It add's a dampening effect to the tailgate while opening. As Asur mentioned it could save some of the kids a nasty bump on the head if the tailgate happens to slip out of your hands while opening and their in the way.
65Arboc, you must have a special 2012 Ram. My good friend has a 2012 Laramie Longhorn, brother has a 2012 Sport and both tailgates slam down like all the rest. My 2010 Laramie has the torsion bars also but they only assist in the closing effort.

My 2012 Laramie has the factory torsion bar but does not seem that much lighter going down. I had installed an aftermarket torsion bar on my last truck which made the tailgate feel very light. I wonder if you can adjust the torsion bar?

BTW, to the OP, When you install your remote lock on the tailgate do yourself a favor and ignore all wire color references! JUST TAP INTO THE WIRE THAT IS LOCATED IN THE SPOT INDICATED ON THE INSTRUCTIONS. I Just did this today :)

When you pull the harnesses out of the TIPM,

Put the red wire coming from the tailgate to whatever wire is in Cavity 7 on the BROWN Harness (Which is Harness "E")
Put the black wire coming from the tailgate to whatever wire is in Cavity 20 on the GREY harness (Which is Harness "F")
