So I used my remote start from over 100 feet away with no problem then three hours later I went to use it from 20 feet away and It would not work. Locks worked, even when pushing remote start button. Just no light flash or start. I tried from right outside the truck and saw the message-remote start disabled- I drove the truck home and shut it off and then remote started it and it worked. anyone out there experience this or know why this happened?

If you have a battery issue, the remote start might stop working. The only time mine didn't work was when the battery was low. I had left the key in it, and the battery was drained. Once I charged the battery, it worked.

Battery issues cause strange phenomena in modern vehicles.

Reading your posts I believe why you are not getting a reason for failed remote start is because the engine never started. I will get a reason on the EVIC if the engine started and then shut down a few seconds later. Hood ajar, door ajar, low fuel, active engine code are the reasons for shutdown. Since your remote start failure is random, I would check your fobs by pulling them apart and cleaning the contacts, making sure all the buttons are attached and well cleaned.

I went through the fobs and did all that after the first time it happened. It happened again today. I stood next to it and listened and I hear the locks lock and the fuel pump kicks on and that’s it. I get in the the truck start it up and shut it off. Then hit the remote start and it fires right up. Thankfully it’s never been a problem in the morning. I’m in the northeast.

You stated that after a remote start fail, remote start will work inside the truck after a normal startup. Try remote start 20 feet out of the truck after a normal start. Just checking if its a distance thing as remote start works inside the truck.

It works from about eighty feet or so at work. Distance doesn’t seem to be the issue. I’m wondering if somehow randomly the button on the fob is getting pushed in a certain way to deactivate it while it’s in my pocket.

Yes fobs in pockets do silly stuff, remote start, shut down truck, lock and unlock, roll windows down. If the fob can do it, it will while in the pocket especially tight jeans. Mine has done all the above.

Keep the fob out of your pocket for awhile and see if the gremlins go away.

Years ago I had a Ford explorer with an aftermarket remote start and one day out of the corner of my eye out the kitchen window I notice it’s running. I thought oh my god how many times has this gone unnoticed. To this day I wonder how much gas I wasted from the fob being in my pocket lol.
