I have had my truck for about a month now (2012 quad cab) and noticed a paint rub on the front edge of my passenger door. The problem is the door is standing proud of the fender so when the door pivots it rubs the fender. I took it to the dealer and they said they have never seen a problem like this...(had to send pictures to Dodge to diagnose the problem)? I am thinking the fender just needs to be shimmed out a little. I am scheduled to take it to the body shop on Monday. Has anyone else heard of this problem?

Well, that's a bit different. Yeah, I would say it's just a body fitment issue but one you would have expected to be caught at time of assembly. Still, barring some damage that occured somewhere down the line before you got the truck, a simple adjustment will probably take care of it, and their body shop should take care of the minor paint issue.

The same happened on my '11 Ram. The passenger door would rub against the edge of the fender whenever the door was opened. It was minor, but it did cause the paint on the edge of the fender to crack, which in turn meant the entire fender had to be repainted (more so because of the cracked paint). The bodyshop manager didn't want to just touch up the fender paint - he wanted to repaint. I let him repaint the fender, and I can honestly say my truck looks as good today as it did when I first took delivery. Albeit some minor sandpaper scratches visible on the fender, but other than that it looks great. And being Black and all, I am quite happy with the result. They could have simply applied some touch-up paint to the fender and door, but like I said earlier the bodyshop manager didn't feel comfortable doing that.

I can't tell the difference between the factory paint and the paint job the bodyshop did. Still have the orange-peel look on the fender.

Do what is right. If it needs paint, then don't settle for anything short of that.

Thanks for the input. They are giving me a loaner tomorrow and adjusting the fender and painting the whole door. Heck they may do the fender as well. So far I am very happy with the dealership....Norman Jeep Chrysler Dodge (Norman,OK). They cleaned house in the parts/service area and the service that I have gotten has been fantastic.

Ther is a TSB on this issue that was brought out in 2009 for these 4th gen trucks.
It is a known issue, but dosent surprise me that they havent fixed the problem yet.
Check this post/thread link out, it is in there about the door & fender isssue.

Passenger door rubbing on front quarter panel

I'm having the exact same issue on my 2012 Crew Cab truck as well. I bought it from CarMax and am taking it back to them this coming Sat.
I've only had it for a week and it wasn't an issue until this AM. It WAS really cold this morning and I wonder if that had something to do with it.
