Grill guard for Express

In the same boat i'm in. Was looking for a grill guard also but no luck either.

It's not a grill guard but seems like westin might be worth looking at or at least to call them and see what they say

The problem with sports & express is they have the plastic bumpers, which you will not find a heavy duty brush guard for. I have a big horn with the metal bumpers, so I got the 2 bottom mounts and 2 upper mounts. Mine is a Westin HDX

I am with Gotbrains230. I had the Westin HDX on my 07 CTD and it is a beast. I've seen one on a new express and I think it looks pretty good if that is the look you are going for.

Yea it is a beast...how was it mounted to an express without using the upper mounting bars?

I'm not sure. I just seen it driving down the road so I didn't get a chance to look at it. I took the one off my 07 before trading it in and still have it sitting in my garage. Been trying to sell it but haven't had any luck. If I had a way to mount it on my 12 express I would.

I would say it doesn't, that why it says it doesn't fit sport or express models. I bet the guy just bolted it on the bottom and carried on with it.

I checked with westin and they don't make a grill guard for our trucks just a bull bar. Might have to have a custom grill guard made or add to the bull bar

Ok thanks for that. Well it looks like I'll have to settle for a bull bar instead of a full grill guard. :i_rolleyes: It's not the end of the world. I'm still going to get the headache rack and toolbox, do the leveling kit, black out the chrome, etc. Just really wanted a full on brush guard. Maybe I'll wait. :4-dontknow:

I'm right there with you on wanting a grill guard. I wounded if we get an after market bumper/grill guard if they would work. We would loose the color matching bumper on our trucks along with a chunck of moneybut would have a bomb proof bumper. There's a few other places I'm going to check into and see what they say as well

I have a 2011 Sport, and I am convinced they will work. The only reason they "don't fit" is because of the plastic cover where tow hooks go on the SLTs, etc. I installed the tow hooks just fine in the front of my Sport, which means that the brackets/holes would line up with a grille guard. I will eventually get one, if my job ever leaves me home long enough to order and install one...

Although this may be true, you would only be able to install one with bottom brackets only due to the fact yall don't have the metal bumper with upper mounts. Any kind of heavy duty bumper requires at least 4 mounting points. On the express & sports there are only the 2 bottom points.
Installing a brush guard using only bottom mounting points is pointless. Yes it will help with minor stuff, but if you hit, let's say a deer, it's destroyed. The brush guard will most likely bend up and could cause significant damage to the grille, hood, radiator supports, and other things
I am in no way trying to discourage anyone from getting one though. Im just saying that if there is a way to fab up some upper brackets and bolt them to the frame and drill holes trough the plastic, it would be highly recommended :smileup:
Or you could just buy the metal bumper and all the other necessary items and replace your colormatched with chrome. Paint them or not

And eventually I might go with a full on bumper replacement. Then I know nothing is getting through that thing short of a Mack truck!
