Grounding out the Throttle Body?

Have any of you guys heard of this? I have a buddy with an 08 ram hemi and he just ran a 10 gauge wire from a bolt on the trottle body over to a grounding location near the battery. And he says that he has noticed a big difference in throttle response.

My only theory on this is: By grounding out the throttle body it takes any ambient static built up on the wires and cleans up the signal going to and from the sensor/pcm? The flow of air going through the throttle body could build up enough static to cause extra noise on the signal and this would clean it up? Making for a more accurate variable the pcm can use to compute?

Any more imformative input on this idea would be awesome!

lol well I definitely am very fortunate to have all that I have. I know many people my age don't have all that I do, I have been given great opportunities.

My biggest problem is time. Between being newly married, new home owner, trying to maintain and mod my truck and bike, and trying to maintain the wife's car, and of course working(often have to work long days and weekends....salary sucks sometimes) I just don't have any time it seems lol.

We get so many posts of things we KNOW are bad for our vehicles: chips, electric intake fans (had one today), TB spacers; and everybody jumps in and waves them away becuase they don't do anything. Why should this be any different? People will do it regardless, just like TB spacers, but if there are both sides to the story, then they have the right to make an informed decision, which is why I make my posts. If there are enough well respected people on this forum (this includes you RamTex, you are respected here) who say "hmmm, this is interesting" but don't do the mod, then new people see that and take it on faith that it's worth doing.

I'm glad that RT and I can have a disagreement about this, it's healthy, and there's been no resorting to personal attacks, even if he does smell like 5 day old lobster left in the sun.

Ive had mine grounded for a few months now, It was such a non factor that I actually forgot I had done it . I will be removing it , figured I would give it some time and see if it makes a difference under different driving circumstances, I havent experianced any gain.

I was having major issues with my throttle response('04 Hemi)...not really major, just majorly annoying. At low speeds it'd be easy to have the rpms "jump" up and down like it didn't know what it wanted to do. This would mainly be at low speeds, like driving through a parking lot or something, where you'd barely have your foot on the gas. But, it could also be noticed at higher speeds, it's just masked a little for whatever reason.

I also noticed that when I'd let off the gas, my RPM's would drop way low(600-800), and then bounce back up to where it should be if you were coasting in that gear. The response of the throttle was also off. It was missing that initial response when you first hit the gas, so you had to be very cautious at launch so that you don't make it jump at first.

All in all, I had been dealing with this stuff for about 4 years...just never bothered to get it check out because I had kinda lived to deal with it. But, I did a simple google search and came across people recommending to ground the TB, so I figured I'd give it a try(I'm an audio guy, I have a ton of wire and goodies sitting around). I spent all of 10-15min doing the extra ground, and....

EVERY PROBLEM I HAD IS GONE. NO JOKE.

This works, plain and simple. If you have an '04 Hemi like me and are experiencing the same issues, DO THIS SIMPLE MOD. It is literally a night and day difference. I don't have to think about how I'm pressing on the gas to avoid my old issues, I don't have to worry about looking stupid with my truck's erratic coasting at low speeds. It has all been fixed thanks to a simple 2-3ft long 12ga wire.

When I switched to a BBK throttle body i realized, I left mine grounded from before, took it off and didn't notice anything different!

wait.. so.. does it actually work or not? I'm not smart enough to understand half the stuff CdnoilRAM said.. hahaha. Would this work on my second gen? (assuming that this mod works in the first place)

I mean, even if it made me feel like i was going faster that would be great as well..

A simple solution would be to test the ground, if it's supposed to be grounded but there isn't a proper ground then repair or replace the connection.

i grounded mine out had it grounded for a month. i took it off so i could drop my truck off at the dealership with out getting laughed at and i didnt notice anything. personally i think this is a placebo effect at least on the 09 any way.
