So I admit, it is a little easier getting to the filter on my 2017 compared to my 2019 DT. But somehow I keep getting oil flowing out of the old filter when I get to about half way unscrewed. I've tried the zip lock bag trick, oil udder (which doesn't fit on all of the way) and somehow a ton of oil ends on everywhere...including onto the power steering module. It's really starting to piss me off every time I need to do an oil change. Anyone have any better suggestions on changing the filter to not make a mess? I took it to a service center for an oil change once and even they got oil everywhere. Lol.

I've often said, they should make these (so called) car & auto engineers work as a mechanic for a couple of years BEFORE they give them a degree, or turn them lose designing cars & engine parts.

The only thing I can think of is a "remote" mounting kit.

Best way I've found, is once oil filter loosens, hold the bag all the way up, but leave some room at bottom for oil to drain into (sorta like leaving the end of a raincoat loose to let the fluid fill it) until it stops flowing, then turn it some more so more oil comes out until it stops. I also drape the EPS with a old towel to soak up what spills. It's still messy, but definetely cleaner than doing it on a big block.

There used to be a Mopar 45 degree adapter that put the filter on a angle (4893315AC for Gen 4 with oil cooler (#1 below) and 77072447 without one), but they've discontinued them. If you could find one I don't know if it'd work on a Gen 5 or not if you could find a dealer that had one in stock

On my 2016 150 I had put on an oil filter relocation kit. It never gave me any issues. I haven't done an oil change yet on my 2500 so I'm not sure if it needs it or if I'd do it again. When I UT it on the 1500 it was probably at about 60k miles. Sold it at 143k miles. My only concern with the relocation kit was I always worried if some road hazzard could pop off one of the oil lines.never happened, never leaked at all.

That's a valid concern. I wonder how it would work for me since I take my Ram off roading..

cut a 2 liter coke bottle in half, and leave it down there while you unscrew the filter, I've had 27 oil changes since brandy new and not a drop on my driveway.
I actually tried that last year but there's no room to put the half bottle. I only have about and inch of space under my oil filter..

Thanks, this is actually for my 4th gen as I seemed to have had more room to work with in my 5th Gen.

Part of the problem is the oil cooler (if equipped) holds so much fluid, that once you break the filter loose, it pisses (it that PC?) drains from both and goes everywhere. and it drops the filter down so it make putting a container under it tough. Next time I might try and old school trick we used to do, put some cardboard behind it and poke a hole in it with a punch or philips screwdriver and let it drain that way first.

Easiest one to change was a late 80's/early 90's S-Series from GM, when you got the oil cooler, filter was relocated to the fenderwell just beside driver headlight.

That is weird, are you using OEM filter? I'm able to get it in with ease everytime, you do have to play with how tall you cut the it in half. I end up just keeping the one I cut and reuse everytime.

Yea, most filters for it are the same size anyway. There's only about 2 inches of space under the filter. But I normally use Mopar filters.

How easy is it to pop a hole in these filters?

Easy.. a long Philips or a long punch, and it pierces easy... I just did it on my Coronet filter last night to take make a hole so I could cut it open and see how it looked.

Now that's a pain to change.. cause I have aftermarket sway bar and torque strap to hold engine down, I have to remove the strap mount to get it out of K-frame due to sway bar being in way of fan shroud and frame. I love big blocks, I really really do..

Yes sir! Change an oil pump on the outside of the block leaning over the fender. Had on go out years ago on a '69 Charger while on a trip. Stopped at a parts store to get one and changed it in the parking lot in about 1/2 hour and was on my way. Sure do miss how easy they were to work on! Also lean over the front of the grill standing up changing the oil filter.
