Hey guys, new Ram owner here. I have a 10 Ram Bighorn with the 5.7 and MDS. I have done so much reading on the hemi tick that my head may or may not be spinning. But from what I have read it seems to go away after warm up. Mine seems to get worse after it warms up. I can hear it in a drive thru, at stoplights next to other cars, and even when I drive by other vehicles. I don't know where to start looking and maybe its a newb question, but it is stressing me a little. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try changing your oil to a different brand, that has solved it for some, including myself. I went to Amsoil, but others have noticed the Hemi tick to go away with other high quality brands. Otherwise I would have the dealer look at it.

So that could be the cause even after the initial warm up? And what type of amsoil are you running? Is it safe to go with a synthetic in these motors even at 71,000? That's what I'm at currently.

I have this tick but only on warmup. Once at operating temp no tick. I have been using Amsoil 0W20 exclusively since 5000kms when I dumped the factory fill. If you have a noise while all warmed up I would try 100% synthetic first and if that doesn't work have a mechanic check it out as it could be a lifter problem.

I started with Amsoil OEM and switched to Signature and yes you can switch to synthetic at any time.

Have you ruled out a broken exhaust bolt? Mine broke and the ticking sounded louder at operating temp.
I had not thought of this but is plausible and worth checking.

Alright thank you so much guys. I will try all of this. Are there any bolts to check first that are notorious for breaking or backing out?

Hemi Tick

Hi My 2003 Ram 2500 Hemi had the Hemi tick.I used Penzoil Platinum 0W20 Synthetic and it stopped right away.
I haven't had the truck that long and not sure if it smoked a bit at start up before but it does now.
Not sure if it is from the oil or not but think I will try something different next time.
