I have a high pitch whine coming from the clutch area of my 6spd tranny. At first it only happened while letting off the clutch and/or accelerating. Now it will also present itself intermittently while idling. Is this the TO going out? I have no slipping in the clutch, just curious how long I can ignore the noise before something blows up or if I should replace it now.

If I break her in half- it almost requires me to replace the plate, flywheel, etc... I hate to do that while the clutch seems to be gripping fine.

Thanks!

Sounds like the Release Bearing (TO Bearing) is shot. :(
I wouldn't wait to long on this, as it may already be damaging your pressure plate.

If the clutch is fine, you could just replace the bearing. Although it does require removing the trans, it's not a horrible job. I would only replace the primary clutch item if -
a) It was already at a known high mileage
b) Upon inspection, I determined it 'needed' replacement
