So I'll start at the beginning. My truck is a 2001 ram 1500 360 4x4 off-road. About a week ago while tinting my windows, I noticed that I had a small oil leak coming from somewhere I could not see from underneath the truck. So I brought the truck home, and parked it until this afternoon. I started looking around and noticed the drivers side back 2 spark plug wires were covered in oil. So I figured I'd check out the valve cover gasket. When I started to take the bolts off, they were all loose enough for me to take them out by hand.
At this point I had no idea how that happened. So after I get the valve cover off, i notice a small tear in the gasket, thinking that was the problem. Later when I was going to put the cover back on, I see a hole about 1/2 inch wide and 1 inch long. The only way I can think this happened is the rocker arms lash is out of whack, so the rocker arms hitting the cover caused the hole and vibrated all the bolts loose.
I am searching around for new valve covers. Figure since im gonna replace them while not replace them with some aftermarket nicer looking ones.
Has this ever happened to any of you guys? Any good places that got not crazy prices on valve covers? I am going to check the junk yard tomorrow. thanks guys for any input.
