I am wondering what the most common causes for this indication are. I have little history of this truck. My first thought is the cooling system. I replaced the engine radiator along with new water pump and all related hoses. The truck was not under heavy load when the light lit. My big question is; " Can old fluid and blocked filters cause "Hot Transmission?" This truck has logged over 170K. There is no temp tranny gauge. The engine temp was normal and the tranny shifts normally. I plan on dropping the pan and replacing the filter(s) and would like to know if while I am in there if you recommend looking for anything that might need adjusting or cleaning as a probable cause. The transmission cooler is a closed loop heat exchanger inside your radiator. The connections should be on the top and bottom on the passenger side. This system does not use the engine coolant, it circulates the transmission fluid through the heat exchanger. So the water pump and hoses have nothing to do with transmission temp. These exchangers are known to get clogged up, this is what I would guess you have going on.

I'd do as you are and replace filter, pan gasket, and fluid. Be sure to check the ATF level as described in the owners manual (warm and in neutral after cycling gear positions). Low fluid will cause overheating, slipping and burning of the fluid. Too much fluid will cause it to foam and not function properly and even cause damage.

Then have the transmission flushed at a jiffy-lube/OCH etc. to clear out the heat exchanger. If the problem persists, assuming that the heat exchanger is the problem, you have two options, either replace the radiator (~$120) or get an aftermarket transmission cooler that is separate from the radiator. Don't know how much these cost, but this is commonly done as an "economical" alternative.

Personally, I'd do the radiator.

Sorry, I missed that you already replaced the radiator. If there is already an aftermarket transmission cooler that's been on a while, you might switch the lines over to your new heat exchanger in the radiator in case the cooler is gummed up. I think you're going the right way with the filter/fluid replacement. It could be that your fluid is simply low. Or perhaps the temperature sensor is bad. Could you feel the heat through the floor of the truck?

Hey. My engine light comes on and off. I have error codes P0713 and P0714. Basically there is a problem with the transmission temperature sensor. Truck works fine, trans fluid is good as well. I have a 2012 5.7 Hemi. My issue is, where do I find the sensor to replace it? I cannot find it in my online searches or in my Chilton repair manual. Any help is appreciated.
