I want to lower my 2003 Ram 1500 standard cab, short bed. I have 20" rims and bought new tires. The low profile tires I got with the rims were Z rated and gave for a terrible ride. So I put the biggest tires I could fit under wheel well. As it is when I am backing out and turning sharp the tire rubs the inner wheel well. That being said. Can I still lower the the truck? Or will the rubbing become even worse? I am not against trimming out some of the liner to make room if I have to.
Next, I want to improve the "ride". Not to sharp not to soft. I put 4 new shocks on the truck maybe 6 months ago. So between the shocks and the fatter/taller tire the "ride" is pretty good. Aside for the body-roll in corners. I see a ton of lowering kits from $80.00 for a couple parts to $1000.00 for all kinds of parts. Some with shocks some without some with "high performance" shocks. What do I actually need to lower the truck and improve the "ride". And will I need new shocks even though mine are new. I see flip kits, hangers, bump stops, shock extenders ect. ect. I am thinking between 1"-2" front and like 4"-5" in the rear.
Thanks. I appreciate any advice/wisdom in the matter.

Drive Safe.

What is currently rubbing and where is what you need to find out. If the tires are tall enough to touch the body or inner fender areas when the suspension compresses then lowering would not be a good idea. However, if the tires are wide enough that they rub on the sway bar (which can be fixed) it wouldn't necessarily affect your ability to lower the truck.

Little rub on the inside wheel well liner.

A buddy and I put new rotors and pads on this weekend and found where the tire was rubbing. It is rubbing at the very bottom back side of the wheel well liner. No big deal. And being that i already ordered a 2.5"/4" lowering kit I guess it will have to be OK.
Just ordered new sway bars for front and back Addco brand from SuspensionConnection.com.
Truck goes to the paint shop Monday and I am waiting on the weather to be at least 65 outside before my buddy will paint the bumper cover. This is all coming along nicely.
