Hi, All. I've only been here a couple of weeks, thanks for your help so far- its been great!

Here's a different question that just comes out of being curious. I've been reading a lot about 2002 4.7L engines having issues with head gaskets. I wouldn't really know if its any more or any less than any other brand, so I thought I would just come out and ask.

I'm not sure if this is more appropriate for the polling section of the forum so forgive me if I mis-post here. I am just wondering what your experiences have been.

How many miles do you have on your 3rd generation (02-08) RAM 4.7L, 2WD with no head or gasket or major engine problems?

I know this has no bearing on what mine will do, but I just want to see.

For the record, I have a 2002 RAM SLT 2WD Quadcab 4.7L with automatic. No towing (may get a pop-up soon though). I drive about 15 miles per day, a good mix of highway and city. Nothing fancy but its mine!

Thanks for your feedback!

I have 166,xxx on my 2002. Im not sure about head gasket issues as Im not the original owner, but I do have reason to suspect that they were done before I bought the truck. I wouldnt think you have anything to worry about regarding that on an 08 though.

Thanks, Bigdaddy. I saw your previous post too- about not being sure since you're not the original owner.

To clarify, it is a 2002 Dodge RAM. In other words a 3rd generation RAM truck.

Thanks all!

133K - at least the third owner... have had it a month..

to my knowledge there has been no work done on the engine, except for a few mods... CAI and Cat-Back duels were installed somewhere during it's life. I did have the rear end bearings replaced before I handed over the cash...

Has anyone gotten any HID lights for there truck, maybe an 08 or so? I purchased some, have had a lot of trouble with flickering. Going to buy some Nokya Bulbs, I heard they are bright.
I installed off/on road baja lights on my 06, my low beams with the new lights on show about as much as my high beams did before. My high beams are ridiculous.

SuperiorStyles, nice truck

Hey, SuperiorStyles. Nice truck. I took a look at your site as well. Very cool. Does yours still have the original head gaskets? I assume not since it looks like you've had your cylinders bored, right?

I have a 2002 2WD with 280,000 miles on it. I just rebuilt the engine due to it burning too much oil but it was running nice and smooth otherwise.

From what I understand, the head gaskets aren't the problem. Aluminum heads on a cast iron block is. The two heat at different rates and if the vehicle is ever overheated, something has to give. Keep it from overheating, run good oil and do regular maintenance and you will be good for many many miles of troublefree driving.

Got my 2003 4.7 up to 29k prior to putting it under the cover for the winter. :gy:

My 09 Challenger R/T is my driver.

All my Dodges get meticulous maintenance, even the Mrs. Nitro. I have never had any drive train problems with a Mopar. Well there was a tranny on our 87 LeBaron, but they covered it.
