I just purchased a 2010 1500 ST Crew Cab with 4.7L. I like the truck a lot. It did not come with RKE, and of course the local dealer told me it was not possible to add it, but thanks to the info I gleaned from this forum, I was able to not only help them through enabling the RKE, but had them install a Remote Start kit in the process.

They were NOT able to figure out how to disable the double-honk on remote start feature. I REALLY want to disable this, it will keep me from using the remote start when I otherwise would.

Disabling the horn on lock/unlock was easy, it's explained in the manual, but nothing on disabling it for remote start. I don't have an EVIC, so nothing to try there. I read elsewhere in this forum about snipping a green/violet wire that runs from the WIN to a plug somewhere at the base of the steering column, but I think that instruction was for a 2007 model, and I don't have a green/violet wire coming from the WIN.

I do not want to disable the horn itself. I've read that the remote start only honks one of two horns, so I was going to determine which one and disconnect it (and probably connect it to the other horn, so I'd still have both when I want to ... you know ... use the horn. :158:), but in fact the remote start toots both horns, so there's no joy there, either.

I'm back to square one, hoping someone might be able to either a) guide me to the correct wire to snip on MY truck, or b) provide a specific instruction I can pass along to the dealership.

By the way, this forum rocks.:smileup::smileup::smileup:

Thanks,

Steven

Welcome to this forumZ
Sorry, i am no help with this issue

Sometimes i don't want to wake everyone when i am arriving or departing in the middle of the night
lock the doors BEEP
remote start double BEEP

But my exhaust is almost as loud, so i sort of let it slide

LOL where you live, you won't wake anything much besides a horse or coyote LOL

I go through your town a few times a year, escorting the delivery of mobile homes
Love the names of those roads & trails down there

I wouldn't be surprised if this ISN'T possible. I've always thought the horn honked as a warning for the remote start. I'd bet this is a safety feature and thus not changeable (much like the inability to remotely roll up the windows).

Since you do not have the EVIC display it may not be possible.

Once I upgraded my truck to EVIC and steering wheel controls I was able to control this and other programable options.

You can find the information needed to do this by searching under EVIC in the search area. http://ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=67409&highlight=evic+upgrade

Finding a cluster from an auto recycler with a few more miles than your truck is key if not you will have to find a way to have the mileage programmed and it will cost extra. When your truck mileage and the new cluster mileage match then swap.

I did not want to wait until my mileage caught up so I picked up two clusters and am running one until the truck catches up with the other. I have @ 4k miles to go. I will sell the one I have in now at that point.

Also find a steering wheel with the EVIC and radio controls.

I did an online search for a recycler that had what I needed and found plenty out there.

Thanks Apstram. Don't think I'll be going down that road.

If anyone else has any suggestions I'm all ears. Seems odd that it can be disabled through EVIC if so equipped but the dealer can't disable it. :-/

The dealer can change this setting. All settings that are controlled by the EVIC can also be changed/adjusted by the factory scantool.
