It's in front of the power sliding window switch (so it's towards the back of the truck about an inch) - upon looking up into the space there is a round hole with a green light shining through. What in the world is this for? If I put my hand up there to activate the switch it's shining a nice green beam down.

A piece of electrical tape will fix that unless you like the light on your console like designed.
I didn't like the reflection.

I don't have a center console - I have a column shift model. The light appears to always be on and not bright enough to light up anything more than 10" below the roof. Is the light really designed to illuminate a center console? Seems odd.

Believe it or not whenyou have a console shift truck at night it does light up he console. It is not super bright but can get annoying at night.
Ah, OK then.. I wonder if I could find a small lens to fit over the hole I could direct it to illuminate the massive fold out 3 cup holder. I just set the squirrel cage in motion..

It is what Dodge calls an ASH TRAY light
I believe it is connected to the Rheostat dimmer‎ switch that dims & brightens your EVIC, it is pretty much a POS
The light also throws a reflection on your passenger side window at night, it is distracting to me, i sometimes drive all night long & i can see it out of the corner of my eye
I would like to have a directional beam LED there instead, maybe in Blue
Maybe something like this one that is on my alarm system, but non blinking. This one is located on my 115V AC outlet

I remember noticing this light and wondering what the hell it was for. One day i needed to get some change out of the console storage hole and realized it was illuminating that area, so then I assumed that must be what its for. it doesnt really annoy me like some others though, although it would be nice if you could turn it off.

some times mine is barley noticeable and some times it is to bright.. I wish you could adjust it on a separate control, it is nice at night or 4 am in the morning when u are looking for your drink and everyone is sleeping.

Mine has a short in it, it flickers on and off sometimes. It works right about 90% of the time but then it goes on fits where it flickers. One of these days I will take it apart and see if it is just a broken solder or a bad LED.
