I was going to wait to install until my Vararam Air Grabber gets here in a few weeks, but I couldn't stare at this thing sitting on the workbench any longer. Some say I have a "disease". So early this morning I woke and got straight to work.

Install was a BREEZE! Took all of 20 minutes, and that was with a emergency coffee dump break. Disconnected the battery, removed the OEM intake tube and engine cover, unplugged the obvious plugs, removed the OEM throttle body, and slapped on Moe's, then put it all back together.

There is barely a difference in a side by side visual comparison of the two units. It's simply a OEM unit. You can see where the TB was bored to 87mm on the inside, but other than that I can't see the dealer, or anyone for that matter noticing any difference from stock unless they were looking for it.

So now for the test drive.... UN - BE - LEIVABLE!!!:head3: The throttle response is like it SHOULD be from the factory. Improved across ALL RPMs. And from a 20mph punch this thing creates a NOTICEABLE difference in the butt dyno even on 35" Trail Grapplers!! Who woulda thought this little mod would make such a incredible difference.

I've only got about 20 miles on it, but can honestly say this is a MUST HAVE MODIFICATION for ANY Ram owner. 100% happy with the results and super thankful for Matt @ Moe's Performance and his STELLAR customer service.

Can't wait to get the Vararam on and hopefully a tuner sooner than later to really unleash this beast's potential.

Oh, and I forgot to add, of course I opted to protect my investment. BT Catch Can also installed.:33:

Definitely noticeable. I've got the magnaflow 14 also, if that matters. Hoping for even better gains w vararam, tuner, and eventually a set of headers.

Catch can catches all the oil that gets sprayed back into the intake. Go pull your throttle body and you'll see what I'm talking about. My truck only has 2500 miles on it and the back of the throttle body had a good amount of residue on it.

The TB lets more air in the intake in a since helping the engine "breathe". Google Moe's Preformance for more info.

Extraordinary upgrade and thread

You'll notice an increase in mpg's very shortly. I did the same mod to my SRT4 and I easily get 30 mpg.
You'll find even more throttle response, breathing, high altitude performance, quieter interior etc - when you put on the aftermarket air intake.
This is a must do for RAM people.
Freeway passing improves along with higher speeds on the freeway.

Thanks

I will give my unbiased AND UPDATED, honest review of the Moes 87MM TB. I have a 2009 ram 1500 with 5.7L Hemi. I put the Bilstein 5100 upgrades with a 1" rear spacer to lift and level the truck approx 1.875 inches. I have a set of BFG TKO2 285/70/17. The big tires made the car a bit sluggish and robbed some MPG. I have since spent about $1,300 for CAI( K&N), Borla cat back exhaust( just made my truckinterior noisy) and now the Moes TB.. BTW - the MOE'S is simple to install. literally 10 min. I had to reset the computer by doing the battery disconnect method. ALL in ALL.... all of this really hasn't changed anything. Honestly. This is my daily driver and the HP gains to get back the little better gas mileage and torque is barely noticeable. REALLY. Not worth spending $1,200. It sounds better, it got back a little MPG ( .5 to 1 MPG MAYBE) and some of the torque lost at low RPM and passing has increased maybe 5-10% on a bonifide noticeable difference. Almost undetectable. Its like a 400 LB overweight guy losing 20 lbs... sure he's on the track and its a good thing... BUT I'm not sure that it is worth it. Put smaller tires on... that is the biggest robber of MPG and torque. Unless you want to mess with all of the chip upgrades and really spend some money on headers and all of that.... is it worth it on your daily driver? i say no... I will say the MOE'S TB look EXACTLY like the original part and is easy to install . Just dont expect it to do too much without doing everything else. I hope this helps anyone else lookin into doing some minor upgrades. Thanks

It's amazing to read all of the differences in feel from these throttle bodies. Some say it's not noticeable. Some say it's a massive difference. The science says it should only help at high RPMs if at all, but there are lots of reports about improved throttle response (like this one). Is there any chance that this is all "confirmation bias" and you just THINK that there's an across-the-board improvement?

Valid points.

My experience was that I added the Vararam and 87mm ported TB, both bought from Moe's, at the same time about one month after I bought my truck two years ago. I would classify the difference I experienced as somewhere in the middle between "noticeable" and "massive difference", and I describe it as a nice firm kick in the rear. It was most obvious at strong acceleration and during freeway onramps and high speed passing. Tooling around town it wasn't noticeable, but stomp on it and I could hear and feel the difference.

That said, I went from daily driving a 1988 Ford Bronco with a six inch lift and 35 inch AT tires fighting against the stout but old 5.0 V8 and 4 speed under the hood. So when I sold the Bronco and got the '15 HEMI Ram with the 8-speed, I was already wowed by performance and modern miracles under the hood.

But installing the Vararam and 87mm TB simultaneously a month into ownership definitely kicked me in the butt when you stomp on it. I love it and am glad I spent the $$ on it. And again, Moe's Performance was wonderful to work with.

More than likely its a case of people who spend money on heavier and taller rims and tires are looking for a magic bullet to get back some of that lost fuel economy and performance. More gear is the only way to get that back short of adding a supercharger or a cam maybe. No way in hell I would ever go with a taller tire without adding gears first. I tried it before and granted it was a 4.8 Silverado with 3.42 gears and a 4spd auto but a swap from 235/75R16s to 265/70R16s turned that truck into a total dog and a noticeable loss in fuel economy.

I too have the Moe's TB, plus K&N CAI, Magnaflow 14" muffler and Y-pipe, modded the exhaust to flow into the y-pipe more freely without the crush piece under the transmission support. All of it together is a big improvement in performance, not as concerned about MPG's.
I may go S&B CAI as I like the setup better.

YOu need a stock engine with nothing installed on it. swap out the Moes TB and dyno test this vs OEM. then you will see exactly what HP and Torque come out of it. I would have to say, the intake manifold has to be port matched. was the butterfly replaced with a new larger one. Also, will the computer see the extra air moving in and adjust the fuel? that is where it would need custom tuned.

Moes 87mm TB

Just finished installing the Moe's Performance 87mm throttle body in my 2016 Power Wagon. Installation was very easy. Granted I only took it around the block, but I am not really noticing a power or throttle response difference yet. A few people mentioned better MPG, I will post as soon as I have a little more time with it. Still running the stock intake at the moment, but I pre-ordered the AFE Momentum GT and will be putting that on soon hopefully.

Have been looking at these for a while, but I do wish someone had done a before/after dyno. I would if I had a dyno anywhere near me.

On a diesel engine, intake, exhaust and a chip can make an entire world of difference with no other mods. The funny thing with a gas engine, is that unless you are at WOT, the butterfly in the throttle body is the item restricting air flow. So, a larger throttle body can't do anything that a standard one can until the last bit before WOT where it provides a larger diameter for airflow. Definitely should add HP, provided that the stock throttle body is limiting airflow at WOT (likely is with an aftermarket intake) but not MPG.

Actually, even Moe's website doesn't claim an MPG gain, so not sure why people are expecting or seeing additional economy. This is purely a HP mod.

I have a 2013 Ram 1500, I installed the Moe's 87mm on my truck 16 months back and it eliminated a slight flat spot when driving in low speed. I did notice the truck accelerates better now and a improvement in higher speeds and I still use the OEM air box. I have been considering the BT catch can also.
