All,
This is my first thread posting so bear with me.
I recently bought a new 2014 Ram 1500 with Uconnect and my phone has paired up and worked flawlessly.....EXCEPT... due to iphones awesomeness I cannot use the uconnect system to its max abilities. (I.E. talk to text) that being siad i have searched everywhere for a fix, including updating all software (Iphone & Uconnect) still no luck. So I posted the following on: apple.com/feedback to request software update to be compatible:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I bought a brand new Dodge Ram 1500 with the 8.4AN Uconnect system. I cannot utilize the system to its maximum abilities due to my Iphones software not being 100% compatible.
(I.E. talk to text feature/ media browse feature when streaming through bluetooth.)
(I have ensured that my phone as well as the trucks system have the most up to date software available)
I have searched throughout many forums to include apple communities/ Ram owner forums/ Chrystler-Dodge owner/ Tech/ Etc. Only Iphone users seem to be having these issues. I cannot find a solution to the problem, only that its due to my software capatability with the Uconnect service
As a loyal apple user for many years I am requesting that Apple releases a software update that will address these issues and allow me to use my iphone with all of my technology assets.
...........OR................
Release a program that can be uploaded into the vehicles entertainment system via USB drive (Similar to the method of upgrade)
That allows optimal use of my Apple products while in the vehicle.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Im just throwing it out there, but lets all overload there feedback center with the same suggestion until we get a solution.

Suppression by Volume!

Good luck with that. Apple can't even get its new software to work on it's own without Uconnect.

It's really never going to be seamless unless Apple makes the software for Uconnect.

iOS is one of the best, if not the best operating systems out there. But, the software built into the Uconnect and other auto systems is like an iPhone 1.

Even if they would get both working good....it would fail as soon as a new iOS version is released. Just the way it iss....even the Apple app developers can't keep up with Apple.

Ram should just put an iPad mini into the dash and call it a day.

Frost, Do think FCA will provide a Apple CarPlay software update to the existing high end Uconnects? I bet Apple CarPlay will only be in the 2015 and beyonds.

It's nice the car companies are finally realizing they should get out of the mobile device software business. That was never going to be successful. Actually it's almost time for them to just provide the screen, volume controls, mic, speakers, and a connection port.

Totally different hardware, and yes it's only on the upcoming models.

With the new I Phone update it wont even allow me to pair my phone it worked for a while then Talk text stopped now phone wont pair with U Connect. U connect says its Apples problem not theirs. So when my 1 year free subscription ends why should I renew when it hasn't worked for months.

I had problems with my iPhone 6+ pairing with my Uconnect on my truck. Finely with the phone in pairing mode while sitting in my driveway I turned the truck off. When I turned the truck back on, I selected settings on the phone tab on the 8.4 screen. At that point the "Add device" tab only stayed high lighted for a just few seconds and during those few seconds I touched the "Add Device" tab to start the pairing process. At that point the phone and the Uconnect paired and has worked correctly ever since. What I just described is the only way I could get Uconnect and my iPhone 6+ to work together. Every other time the "Add Device" tab would never stay lite long enough to get the process started. I still haven't been able to get the phone text messages to show on the screen using my iPhone 6+ and it would work on my iPhone 5. As far as the voice texting, I haven't been able to get that to work on either phone.

I think on the scale of technology advancements the iPhone is somewhere around level 8 and uConnect is just approaching level 2. I doubt if Apple will ever dumb their system down to be fully compatible with uConnect.

The limited capabilities seem to work fine on my system. Like, phone address book, recent calls, etc., showing up on the uConnect screen. The voice commands from Apple Maps work great through the uConnect but I cannot get the TomTom nav app on the iPhone and iPad to talk through the truck speakers.

All iPhone owners think Apple has the largest cell phone market share.
Depends on what you consider market share to be. If you consider iPhones with IOS vs all other phones with Android then Apple definitely doesn't have the largest share. But, comparing model to model (i.e., iPhone 6 vs HTC1 or Samsung Galaxy) then Apple comes out ahead. I don't think any non-Apple brand has sold more than 70 million handsets in a single quarter.

If the only thing I used a cell phone for was to make calls, send texts, etc., then I would probably go with one of the droids. They are great phones and do lots of really neat things. But, I'll stay with the iPhone because of the way it integrates with all my other devices and with the iCloud system.

Looks like the Uconnect system is based on the QNX operating system - any Crackberry lovers out there :box2:

For a technical rundown of the Uconnect system:

Edit:

Go here (http://chrysler.ptcmanaged.com/query.action?region=NAFTA&country=US&request_locale=en&brand=Ram) and enter your specific information to see what is compatible. Uconnect appears to be incompatible with my iPhone 6+ for voice texting (via the MAP protocol) and personal WiFi hotspot.

So I have had both Droid phones and I recently got an Iphone6+.

I was never a big iphone guy. After having one I love it! Best part is my 6+ will actually stay connected via Bluetooth to my Uconnect in my 2014 Sport.

I did just realize that since the switch I don't get texts on my screen anymore.....Keeps me from dinking around and my eyes on the road.

My Motorola turbo works great with uconnect. The thing is apple just got on board with the MAP profile, that's what allows the text messaging to work. Droid have had since 2010. My Droid worked with ford's my touch/sync where my wife's iPhone did not. Ford is going to be redisigning their systems based of the blackberry operating system and apples iplay. Having had the my touch in two cars and infiniti's system, the uconnect is a very stable and we'll performing system.

According to figures from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, the market research division of WPP, in the key holiday sales quarter of Q4 2014, Apple sold more iPhones than all of the various Android OEMs put together, the first time that it has managed to do this since Q4 2012.

I think those charts compare apples (no pun intended) to oranges. I saw one of those reports a couple of years ago and Apple was way ahead but new info is needed.

IOS is only installed on one brand of smartphone...Apple. Android is installed on how many brands? I'd like to see numbers comparing individual brands and models with Android (HTC 1, Galaxy 3 or 4 or whatever, and on and on) to the single Apple brand.

I really like the high end droids but the sub-$300 models shouldn't be considered in the same league as the Galaxy, Apple and other high end models. I'd probably be using one of the top Androids but stay with Apple because of the way it integrates all the associated devices and, the big reason, unmatched support from USA BASED ENGLISH SPEAKING personnel.
