Well this Winter I went to make a turn in the driveway after I let the truck warm up (-29) and when I cranked the wheel all my power steering fluid dumped out. I had to drive the truck for a couple days like this no fluid. I know it was not good but I had no choice. Three days later it held fluid with no issues until now. it is getting worse loud grinding noise or whining I should say is coming from the pump. The truck turns fine when I am moving however at a stand still it is horrible. I am assuming this is going to be the pump and I am hoping not the rack. Is there a sure fire way to tell if the rack is gone?

Also I have a clunk coming from the front when going over a bump I checked the axle well seems to be the cv axle I believe and the drivers side seems to be a little looser then the right side. I pushed up on the boot closest to the transfer case in upward motion. Not sure how much wiggle room is supposed to be there if any.

Sounds like you need a new P/S pump. Can't be very expensive, maybe try rockauto. As far as the clunk, replace the sway bar end links.Bwoody has very stout ones. Oh, welcome to the forumz.

Well I jacked up the truck tried bleeding the system again no go. However after a closer look it looks like there is fluid coming out of the right had side boot. I am thinking the rack and pinion is gone. also that side of tire seems to have a fair bit of movement from side to side and you can see play in the tie rod end. I went to the dealership and they wanted 489 just for the power steering pump. I am going to hate to see how much they want for a rack. Canadian tire wants 150, and NAPA wants 235 for the pump. looks like I got a good $1000 just in parts. I don't want something cheap as I want it to last the truck has 147000km

As hydrex said use rockauto. Their prices for a front wheel bearing with shipping was still cheaper than buying it here. if you get all the required parts figured out do an online order and you will probably see the parts in about 2 days.
