I am hoping someone can give a little insight on my problem, I went to pass someone and punched it half way around the guy truck threw a P0303 code and started shaking a little with the cel flashing. I immediately slowed down it continued to shake and then stopped, drove the truck easily home and scanned it. Not knowing when the plugs were changed last( bought it from a 5star dealer last year) went and got 16 champion 446's gapped them, put some anti seize on them and installed them inspecting the coils and boots as I went along, 2 1\2 hrs later I was done. Took the truck for a boot and it ran fine until I punched it and the code returned grrrrrrr, next I swapped coils with another cylinder but the code remained the same ...... P0303. The truck starts fine idles good with a slight tick, drives okay but hesitates a bit under light load. every now and then I hear what I swear sounds like valve chatter again under light load.I am thinking about popping the valve cover and taking a look to see if I have a broken spring or loose rocker etc. Any other ideas what could be causing this?? Its spooking me out after reading many posts of broken springs and dropped valves. Thank you for your time and great site Cheers!

Fuel injector would be my guess by the symptoms you posted. How did the plugs in #3 look?

Sea foam could help if it is a little clogged. you can look around the base of the injector to see if it is wet(where it goes into the intake).

Mine started with a 3o3 and over time the tick got louder and finally the lifters for cylinder 3 siezed up wiping out the cam along with it. If you are under 100k, powertrain warranty will cover, I was 1700 miles out.

Thanks for the reply.... For shits and giggles I turned the MDS off as per the the post the engine section and the driveability was night and day! , still get a little chatter at about 2000 rpm like when I slow down to turn a corner and back on the gas but nothing like I was hearing with the MDS on. That leads me to suspect the lifters( that's where the MDS is activated right?) I' m still going to pop the valve cover and check the spring and rod on cylinder 3. Could a f'ed up lifter bend a push rod?? And is it just the lifter itself or could it be a software issue as well?? .

Update: today I removed the drivers valve cover to see if there was any damage like a broken spring or out of adjustment rocker, and to my surprise everything looked good and it was nice and clean no crud build up. So a least I know who ever had the truck before me took care of it. So I put it back together and popped the air inlet tube off........the throttle body was dirty as f, removed it and cleaned it as per the post on this site for the electronic throttle bodies, the I had a can of seafoam and ran it through the brake booster hose.Wow what a smoke show! .... end result is smoother idle, no codes( my permanent p0303 code disappeared :). ) no more valve chatter and she runs like new!!!!!!!!, needless to say I am very impressed with seafoam and will continue to use it for my normal maintenance. Just need to purchased a catch can now. Happy dance time!! :)

I have just experienced the same issue with my 2011 Ram 2500 Hemi to a T, tick and all. I was curious if the problem returned after cleaning it out with sea foam? I have 196K on it. So I doubt that it is going to be that easy of a fix. I am fixing to trouble shoot it this weekend.

I have the same problem as originally stated. Know this is an old thread but I've done everything that has been suggested and my 2009 Dodge RAM still does the same thing. Starts and runs normal. CEL is on but still runs fine. Take if for a drive and as soon as I get on the gas the CEL starts flashing and now I have to stop and shut engine off before it will stop sputting. Light stops flashing but will still run rough. Thinking at this point it could be a bad injector or possibly the computer.

Any thoughts?

For me changing out the VVT solenoid did it. It's under the manifold so you gotta take it off, 4 out of 10 difficulty. The screens on my solenoid where cracked or gone.
