Well i have another issue.....My truck had a vibration going down the road at about 50-55MPH. I thought it wasa a u-joint that was about to fall apart because sometimes the vibration was really horrible. crawled unneath it to look at the u-joints yesterday and they were all fine,(surprising since all but one are original), and I happened to look at the tranfer case. There is a damn hole in it..... from one corner of the hole there are cracks running all around to the passenger side of the case, almost all the way around the output shaft.

Is it possible to buy just the rear half of the case or am I going to have to buy the whole thing? Havent called any junk yards yet to ask them. Pretty sure its a NP231. Just dont' want to buy a whole thing if i s=dont have to. anybody know a place that might sell this?

I'd start with ebay, if you don't have any junkyards around, after figuring whether or not the internals are destroyed, was the casting destroyed by external inputs, or internal failures? any tranny shop probably has old castings, but rebuilding cases ain't necessarily for the faint of heart, as far as I know... I'd be after a privately owned junked truck, myself, but I have several hundred acres to keep my spare part supplies on... changing transfer cases are not that difficult...

if ebay doesnt help try Car-Part they are usualy pretty good.

craigslist.org. thats where i buy most of my parts for mine. in fact i just bought 5, 15x10 wagon wheels for my truck for 20 bucks.
