I've recently purchased a 1995 Ram 1500 with an open differential. I'm not a huge fan open diffs and really want to get both tires spinning. I'm not looking for a full locking diff but just a limited slip and was wondering what the best way to make the switch over was. I've had a friend tell me about spider gears but mi not entirely sure what that is or if it's the right way to go. I know that a LSD was an option for this year and maybe it wouldn't be too hard to get my hands on one. Either way any help or advice on products or ways to make the conversion is much appreciated. SInce you don't want a locker (which anyone who has the factory LSD would want to have )...your best bet is something like the Eaton, Auburn or other Brands out there.
The factory LSD is a light duty unit that is prone to failure when used hard. It's fine for gran'pa with a stock truck who needs a bit more traction on snow, but little else.

Just offering my experience.

1st factory LSD broke the clips b/c I did donuts in the snow.

It was rebuilt by the dealer back in 2009.

It's held up gravy in snow and trails. Trails like the portions of the Rubicon, plus some other intermediate ones in my backyard.

I've got some videos showing it do work. Search YouTube for my same username. Granted this one is now only 5 years old. :wavey:

It's all about how you treat it...still.

OP...the choice should probably weigh against how you plan to use your truck. If this is going to get beat on or used rigorously off pavement or on pavement burnouts, then I definitely agree with Okie's suggestions on the brands. I've always read good feedback on the Auburn, however, I can't rule out Yukon Grizzly either. Compare the price with the dealership too.
