Hello Guys; New to the site. Well I got a 04" 1500 5.7L hemi with now 67,000 miles. I've read that this particlar engine has some major problems.
1. Valve spring failure
2. Cooling system issues (overheating)
3. Lubrication (with sluge)
4. And others I can't remember right now.

I've read that this engine begins to have it's problems at around 67,000 which I'm there now.

What kind of money are we talking to fix these problems? I'm good with tools.
I've had the sticking termostat already and going to fix that myself.

It's the valve spring I've never done (may have to have dealers do that)
And Lubrication what's the fix for that?

I like this truck, want to nip these problems it in the butt before this truck become lawn art. Sorry for the long letter, hoping you all can give me some insight as to fixing these problems. Also I'd like to know if Doge ever issued recalls on these issues or if there are TSB that dodge isn't sharing. I've taken my truck ti dealer for oil changes and tranny check but they don't share any TSB. Ok I'm done

I don't know any differences between the 04 and 05. My 05 is about to hit 200,000 miles, still uses no oil. I run SRT8 valve springs and push rods, not because stock ones are weak, but I run a hot cam and shift at 6,200 rpm+. I have always used synthetic oil, Mobil 1 for the first 100K, now run Penzoil Platinum. I flush out cooling system at 100,000 and run a 180F t-stat, in fact replace all fluids at 100,000 mi. My 05 Dodge Magnum hemi has close to 300,000 miles, still trouble free. Change with premium synthetic oil, send a sample to Blackstone Labs. Hemi is a German engineered high performance motor, don't run bargain basement oil that you might run in a lawnmower.

I've heard of 03's/early build 04's having valvespring issues, that being said I have an 03 with 140,000+ on the clock with original springs. Haven't had any of the other issues and until very recently it was my daily driver.

My 03 broke a valve spring and replace all with 6.1 exhaust springs and 6.1 push rods. I went through about 6 rears and 1 transmission . All under 70,000 miles. I fixed the rear by buying everything new from just differentials and had it profesionally done. Dealer was useless

Thanks Guys, This truck was given to me, it had 45,000 when I received it, It now has 69,000 miles on it. I was doing some research because the check engine like came on at 67,000 took it to Pep Boys to read the code, It was something to do with the cooling, The guy asked if it overheated I told him no. But I found my Tstat was stuck also going to replace the temp sensor I read that that componet sometimes fails and gives false readings causing chk eng light to come on.
