I want to add the manual lock to my tailgate handle and have been researching part #'s and prices. I haven't been able to find all the parts in one package, you have to order each part individually. Does anyone know of a package with all the parts that I might be missing on the web? Cheapest route is ordering the 4 parts individually but the cost of shipping makes it just as costly as buying them all from one place.

It didn't come with it? Dad's 2009 SLT came with a manual tailgate lock

This was many years ago but I recall only adding two parts, the locking tail gate handle and the lock. Pretty sure everything else fit right in. I remember some people said you had to order the right and left connecting rods, but I never used them, still have them somewhere.

When I upgraded to the auto lock and camera there were a few more parts to consider.

The '09s that were built early on didn't have the locks. The second half of production did.
You don't have to replace the cross bars, you just have to put a small bend in one to make the fit right.
To get a locking tailgate I need to buy a handle, lever, lock cylinder and lock cyl lever. None of these can be bought together as far as I can tell. The parts would cost around $200 which seems way too high for a manually locking handle.
If anyone knows of a person going to the remote lock, would you ask them to get in touch on here if they are interested in making a few bucks on their old setup, assuming it has the manual lock system.

Back in late 2009, Ram came out with the manually locking tailgate
My 2009 SLT was built in October 2008

I bought the handle, lock cylinder & another mechanism, then when it came into the Parts Dept., i found out that for more money, i could get the handle, manual locking handle & a tailgate camera !!

This was the other mechanism that i had purchased to make the lock work

i believe that i have an image of the OEM part that came with the Ram

My 2004 2500 tailgate had the the non-locking tailgate handle. When I put the tonneau cover on, I realized that NOW I needed to be able to lock the tailgate to have a measure of security. I bought a Bully LH-007WD Integrated O.E. Tailgate Lock from Amazon.com for ~$24. It's an exact replacement for the stock tailgate latch handle. Easy to install. Took maybe 15 minutes. At first I thought it was a bit cheesy and it didn't feel as sturdy as the OEM latch handle but I have had absolutely no issues with it in almost 2 years. Comes with 2 keys. Don't know if they have a version for the '09 models. My specific product was for '02-'08. Seems a lot easier that seeking out a bunch of parts and cobbling things together. The Bully Tailgate Lock does exactly what I needed it to do. Check it out and see if there's a model for your year and trim level.

I checked Amazon and actually bought the same Bully lock you did. The problem was that almost all the specs on the LH-007WD listings were incorrect, kind of. They all said '02-'09 which is half true because in the middle of production of the '09s, they switched the tailgate to the 4th gen version. So the first '09s used the LH-007WD, but the bulk needs the newer version. They refunded me pretty quick and hassle free.
I just can't believe that nobody has put together the parts needed in one package. I'm gonna start calling wrecking yards, their websites are worthless.

I had to check my Amazon order history to get the specifics. It seems that that product is now listed for a model year range of '02 - '08 even tho they might fit some of the early '09s. That's a tough break in your case.

I have very little recent experience getting parts from wrecking yards. Many, many years ago (way before internet and websites) we just called and asked the guy that ran the wrecking yard if they had a particular vehicle and if the part we needed was still on it. Those guys generally knew what they had and could usually give a yes or no over the phone. I know that many of those businesses are now very sophisticated i.e. have websites with search engines but it's still probably your best bet to call or if there's one close, just go there.
I have a friend that, for a number of reasons, has need of the services of wrecking yards. We have 2 or 3 within ~20 miles. He has established good rapport with them. Many times he's told me that they let him harvest the parts himself! Most of the sophisticated places probably don't allow that.

In your case, I imagine that you will have to find a truck with a damaged tailgate in order to harvest the part you need. With tailgate theft being kind of an issue, undamaged/complete ones are probably in high demand. Good luck with your quest.

Cheesehoff - trying to find an option for a tailgate lock on a 2009 too. What did you end up with?

What he removes is exactly what you need

Tailgate Handle with the hole for the lock
Lock Cylinder, the tumblers can be re-keyed to use your door & ignition key, they did it for mine

Cheap guy question..... Can I get by with just putting a hole in my current handle and not buying a new one with the whole? Is there anything else different?

I am not sure if the hole is marked out on the inside of the handle
Several people have drilled their own holes for both the Lock & Camera

If you find a locking tailgate handle, any locksmith can re-key the tumblers to work with your Valet Key inside of the FOB

In fact, if you are careful & don't lose any of the parts, you could do it yourself after watching a couple of Youtube Videos on the subject

Is there any special lock cylinder for the handle, or anything from Chrysler? I found one below on Amazon.

Thanks for all the help. I was hoping there was an cheap and easy kit for this, like the older versions, but it doesn't appear so.

Personally, i would take the tailgate handle & the latching mechanism to a locksmith
They very well may have the lock cylinder & re-pinning kit in stock
If not, maybe they can know where to get it besides a dealership

At least they can give you an estimate
