Hi. I am going to be rebuilding my truck soon and need to know what possible manual transmissions I should look into. It is a 1983 d150 with a 318 that I'm not sure just how big and bad I'm going to build yet, and an automatic transmission right now. I've been looking at the np435 but it seems to be a mostly hard working tranny and although I do want this truck to pull well, I want it to run too! I'd like to squeeze a few hundred horses under the hood and be able to take it to the 1/8 mile tracks every now and then without looking stupid, but it will mainly be an everyday driver that I'd like about 15mpg out of. So..... how do I get 300+ horsepower, 15mpg, and 8000lb towing capacity out of this little truck?
What manual transmissions will bolt up and do what I need it to do? Is there a good 5 speed that would work well?

Yeah. It's either that or some form of Tremec aftermarket unit. What are you concerns as far as why it wouldn't work?
