i have a lifted mega cab with dual steering stabalizer and lately when i am at a stop or slow crawl when i turn the wheels more than a 1/4 turn i get a noise that sounds like a piece of metal that is popping... example(sounds like it would when you try to move one thing over another and it catches a bit then pops over it? best way i can think to describe it, checked and topped off steering fluid but it still does it.

any ideas to start figuring it out would be much appreciated

Something obviously is catching another component as it slides past.

What I would do is get a friend to turn the wheel while you are under the truck, listening and watching. It may take a while but that's how a tech would approach the problem...a visual inspection for interference.

I know it's the obvious but steering issues is where I would start:

maybe an excessive angle on or a worn steering shaft u-joint,
how about the tie-rod ball joints?

If there is no belt screeching you can probably rule out the power steering pump...

take a look at your front axles too. i snapped one last weekend and it was a clunking/ metal on metal sound.

you might also check for a broken shock absorber or spring
it could cause things to be at an improper angle & cause binding
