Yea their is a world of difference.
Here is a list:
For 1995 and prior;
1. OBD1
2. 1 O2 Sensor (Pre-Cat)
3. 60 Pin Block Connector ECM Harness
4. Hydraulic Transmission Governor
5. For 5.2L Used 18 LB injectors

For 1996 and post;
1. OBD2
2. 2 O2 Sensors (1 Pre Cat and 1 Post Cat)
3. Utilizes 3 Block Connectors for the ECM Harness
4. Utilization of Electronically Governed Transmissions
5. Use of larger rated fuel injectors

The 1996 was much stricter on emissions!

The engine itself hadn't changed but the electronics are completely different between the 95 and 96, atleast with the ECM and injectors.

Jegs has some for around 300+, you could try ebay. Many people buy one of the performance ecm's and they experiment and then they just want to unload it. To be honest the performance ECM only gives you a small increase in HP and Torque, I think it's primary advantage is that it allows you to put a hotter cam, how hot IDK but more then the stock 251/261 Adv. I must say the 251/261 stock cam is actually very decent! Anyway's back to ECM's.
Try jegs and ebay! I'm sure you can find a ECM for the 96 for less then 400!

No problem, you should request a catalog from Jegs, they usually have them in their catalog. Anyway's last night I was on ebay looking at mopar performance parts and I saw couple of listing for the 1996 Performance ECM in the lower 300 range. But like said the advantages of the performance ECM is that is can accept a hotter cam and so on so forth, it's alot more useful because it can be customized easier then the stock. The stock ecm cannot be programmed without being sent someplace.
