My Lightsaber (RansRAM, wanna duel?)

3882 Views 20 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Limeybastard
Santa brought me one too.. I'm up for a duel anytime, RansRAM! :D

I installed this a few months ago.. only for the bar to finally give out due to operator error (I removed the tailgate to install.. and forgot to snap the rear camera wire loom back into place before I closed the tailgate.. doh!). So, the first bar got cracked and was removed.. I left all the wiring in place however, just tucking it up into safe 'storage'.

Finally installed the replacement a few weeks ago. Here's a pic of how I wired it up again.. hopefully it is understandable! And a video of the bar in action! (I wish I knew how to edit videos.. lol.. you'll know why at the end :shy:)

Thanks very much, GT! Coming from you, that is one heck of a compliment. :shy:

I am very pleased with the way my rig is progressing and am glad to help others when I can (and turn a few heads) while trying to build friendships and a good reputation here. The road thus far has most certainly been an extreme learning experience!

I tried giving you rep but apparently I've given too much in the last 24 hours.. lol
I'll be sure to send some your way when I can in thanks for your support!
That is a pretty cool light bar. When are you changing to LED tails?
I won't get into this lightsaber battle because I cheated and have more lights... :gy:

Sure looks good though!

Edit:

JUST KIDDING!!

Arth with more lights I find that hard to believe
I have been wrestling with the idea of getting one of these light bars. I reallllly like it, but at the same time I want to preserve a almost completely stock look.

Thanks for posting up the video, woke up the mod bug a little bit.

I have no plans to replace the entire tail light assembly.. but have been trying to look in to just replacing the stock bulbs with LEDs.

You know, I actually freaked out back when I first saw your lit flaps. Despite how much I liked yours, I love my chrome Canadian imports more. To each their own. I passed on more light in favor of that touch of chrome.

Thanks Shawn! :D

I am keeping my truck's stock appearance as well. This bar is hardly noticeable during the day and, well, obviously noticeable at night. :wow:
Here's a few day pics of the tailgate.. unless you're looking, you can't tell it's there.. I continue to surprise my friends who end up following me somewhere at night. :D

I think it is the perfect mod. It does not change the exterior (daily) appearance of the truck.. while I still get my addition of more lights at night.

That's what I meant. Looked around for a while myself for bulbs. Tried some from retro-solutions. Not bright enough. Ended up with these in red which were recommended by SS4Luck. Nice and bright and I'm very pleased with them.

Maybe Asur with chime in. He got some really bright ones as well.
That light bar looks great.. I have been looking into getting one too.. My truck will be very bright from every direction soon enough..

Thanks for the link! I will certainly be grabbing some of these soon.. 2 in cool white for the reverse and 2 in red for the brake.. right?

Would I need resistors for these to avoid hyper flash?

Thanks Brandon! Have fun lighting yours up! :) I highly recommend this bar and Recon overall! Great customer service and superb quality built products.

Two in red for the brake/turn signals. Yes you will need resistors.

I would recommend these for the reverse (no resistors needed):

I posted some pictures here:

One thing I have to say is the title of this thread reminds me of the infamous battle scene in the movie Skin Deep with John Ritter (RIP). If you know the movie you know what I'm talking about.
Now that looks awesome, the dual is on. Here are some well deserved reps for the pics and video. :rep:

Great, thanks for the info! Bookmarked!

Are there any options for the brake/turn signals with no need for resistors? Probably not, but doesn't hurt to ask. Do the resistors come with install info? I've been reading quite a bit on the lighting section and have read that if not grounded or mounted properly they tend to burn paint..? I am not an electrician by any means and would hate to have to bother you guys more than a couple of times on the same topic. :shy2:

I don't recall that movie.. my reference is obvious.. Star Wars. If I go ahead with my most recent mod attack, I may give RansRAM a run for his money.. what, being armed with a double-sided lightsaber.. Darth Maul material there! lol

Speak of the devil! Move along, there is nothing to see here. You didn't hear anything.

Thanks for the rep, hun.. much appreciated. :shy: And, yes, the dual is on! :gy:Just name the time and place..

Damn that is slick, I gotta get me one! With the amount of driving I do have extra bright brake lights is a must! Great mod, and great thread. Too bad I can't give you more reps!
Thank you much, Shane! I totally recommend this bar not only because it just looks cool, but also due to the extra light and visibility it adds to our trucks. As stock, they are too dark from the back, IMO, and Recon's Xtreme bar *really* brightens it up! There is now NO guessing what my truck is doing, or about to do! LOL! Thanks on the rep.. but no worries! I'm just glad you like it.

You can run but you can't hide. LOL. You can find on another thread that my Ram has a name, it's "Vadar" no s#%t it's mean and sinister looking but all good in the end. So ya some side by side shots would be cool, I do have LED tails and third brake so the back end is all lit up nicely now and I get tons of compliments on the recon light bar.

Vader, huh? My Ram also has a name, kind of. I started calling her the Millennium Falcon in some of my earlier posts. Was even thinking of getting special badges made with the Rebel Alliance symbol, even though that wouldn't be a true match as the Falcon was always a Merc for Hire. But that idea went out the window when hubby (my resident Emperor, lol) said all badges will remain stock. So, now I'm thinking of a special additional badge of some sort... I'd love LED tails and 3rd brake too.. but, again, I have to run everything by the Emperor.

I frequently get compliments on my bar too (and my unique mud flaps). There are a handful of other truck owners (not just Rams) in my town who have light bars.. but none of them have the scanning turn signals.. theirs just flash either the right or left side of the bar.. pretty boring! So, through others I have learned that I have accomplished my goal of having a standout rig.. at least in my neck of the woods.

Very nicely done! Very bright. I'd use it only for reverse lights myself, but that is still cool nonetheless.
