After picking up my Silver '12 RAM 1500 Sport in early December, I looked at several options for lining and covering the bed. It's pretty common to see the black sprayed in liner around these parts, so that was an option. I had an '01 Dakota Quad Cab $X$ a few years ago that was also silver, and I sprayed it with a silver color-matched liner. It was sweet for sure! I also looked at the plastic and the wood drop in liners, but it just didn't do it for me. After driving my '05 Durango for almost 6 years, the truth is, I didn't buy the RAM as a pickup....it's my new SUV!

OK, OK, so it's really not blasphemy to call it an SUV. I just don't really need a TRUCK. In fact, I never really have. I've been driving SUV's since before they were cool...in fact before they were called SUVs! I drove a '75 and a '79 Chevy Blazer, as well as a '79 Dodge Ramcharder (awesome unit...my first Dodge!) and an '89 Pathfinder. After a few years as a Dad-in-a-mini-van I bought the Dakota Quad Cab, which was really just another SUV, with a fiberglass box cover that only came off 3 times in 3 years.

So, yes, my RAM is an SUV, which led me to my new boxliner. I bought a bed rug, and I love it! I could have got a screamin' deal on it from J'n'J Enterprises in Ottumwa, Iowa, which is where I ordered the Silver Retrax bed cover from (more on that in a minute). But, I had a $100 credit and 10% discount at the dealer, so I ordered that "factory" bed rug. It's awesome, and the only difference from the "standard" bed rug is the sweet Rams Head logo across the front of the box!

My garage isn't heated, and in spite of the balmy weather, I opted for a morning at my local car wash! I didn't have a camera, so unfortunately no play-by-play pics, but it is a very easy process. Since I have a day off, and we had some freezing rain last night it wasn't busy at all...which means they don't mind me hanging out for a couple hours lol. I washed the truck, particularly the inside of the box, then shammied it dry.

I had attached all the velcro tabs in my garage earlier as per the (excellent) instructions. I laid the bed rug in the box and zipped the bottom to the sides. I literally just followed the simple instructions to attach it to the box, starting with the underside tape/velcro strips. I washed the area on the box where the tape would attach with a mixture of 50/50 alcohol and water and wiped it dry then peeled the tape backing and pressed it into place. easy as pie! I then attached the front of the box, then worked my way down the left side and then the right side.

I left the tailgate portion unattached for the moment as I have a tailgate gasket coming with the box cover and it would be painful if not impossible trying to install it with the bedrug on the tailgate.

As for the Silver Retrax Bed Cover, I can't wait to install it! Unfortunately UPS seems to have lost it (how pissed off do you think THAT makes me!!). It was supposed to be here yesterday....put a trace on it today and waiting to figure out wtf happened to it. How do you loose 2 packages after they clear customs?? So much for trusting UPS!

I will post a pic soon of the bed rug, 'cuz it's really sweet. I will also post once I receive the bed cover and install it. I hope this was useful info especially if you're looking at your options for lining your bed. I love the look and feel of the bed rug and it's perfect for my needs. This is one of those things that take it from "just a truck" to My Ride!

Cheers!

I'm glad to hear you love it! I have one coming to my dealer with my Uconnect module. They said it should be in at the end of this week. I can't wait.

I have permanently mounted tool boxes in my bed, so i had my bed done with Line-X
If i didn't have those boxes, i would also have the Bedrug
You did a nice install, i don't see any creases
Some people need to buy extra Velcro to get the wrinkles out
With the cover, you shouldn't have to worry too much about the the cover freezing where the bedrug crosses from the bed to the tailgate

Yep, looks really good! My truck came with the drop in bed liner, but if I didn't have that I would go with the bed rug for sure. These trucks could definitely be called SUVs, especially the crew cab models. It's an SUV that seats 5 (or 6) and can actually tow and haul..and go off road...

The drop in liner will wear the paint off in spots, it also causes moisture to collect between it & the bed

Yeah I thought about the moisture issue with the bed rug too. It's not carpet so it is *supposed* to not hold water, and the bed drain holes aren't covered up too much so it should drain fairly well. It's attached with Velcro so it is removable....most likely I will pull it out and clean the box underneath every couple of months. I have a tailgate gasket coming with the bed cover which should prevent a lot of the moisture and road grime from getting into the box in the first place.

Nice truck and good pics, tempted to look at a bed rug, how much did it cost if you don't mind?

I've got one in my truck and love it. I bought it used from a guy who took it out of his 07. They are the same part # for the new trucks, so if you find a good deal on a used one, don't be afraid to get it. I paid 80.00 for mine used so it was a good deal.

JnJ in Iowa had a really low price....and free shipping if i'd bought it with my bed cover. I opted for the factory unit only becuase of the $100 and 10% off GoAuto credit i got when i bought the truck...and because i really wanted the RAM head logo!

JnJ have been great to deal with. unfortunately i now realize the S in UPS stands for SUCKS. Lost in shipment after it went through Customs in Winnipeg and ive waited all day for someone to call me back about putting a trace on it. My guess is their security sucks and some pawn shop just gave an airprot worker a couple hundred bucks for it lolol. Who knew UPS could be so shitty?? Thought they played in the big leagues......

Yup!! I've had a Bedrug in my last 4 trucks...wouldn't go without it. I'm up in the frozen north here as well...have never used a tailgate seal and have never had freezing or moisture issues.

I hear ya on the "SUV" thing  I've got a Leer 700 series tonneau (with the same colour carpet liner on the underside) on mine and it makes for one great big clean dry "trunk"...sweet! :Banana01:

Mine came with the drop in also.
I did buy a BedMat ( by Bed Rug )
It can be used with or without a liner and covers the floor only.
It works great for me. It only cost $100 or so.

Supposed to get Line-X locally for 375 at the end of the month...this thread is giving me second thoughts though.

Seems like the velcro would wear eventually...anyone have any experience on how long it holds up?
