So when I got on this forum I had just purchased a new 2015 Ram 2500 two years ago. Two days later we bought my wife a new 2015 Durango, from the same Dealership. Since then her Durango got totaled in a T-Bone accident and we bought a bigger camper (5th wheel toy hauler) that the 2500 just wasn't up to the task to pull. I just purchased a used 2014 Ram 3500 dually from another dealership.

When I bought this truck, the navigation was activated (8.4A radio and not the AN radio) so the guy before me spent the $595 to get it activated. When I got home I did the latest update to the radio, it reset the radio and took away the navigation. I hit the "Assist" button on the mirror and spoke to a lady and she said to take to the dealership, ok no problem I have taken my previous truck to them for all the service and warranty and never had an issue. I asked her if it would cost anything and she said, "no, they will be able to see that it was activated before and be able to activate it again.

I called the dealership and spoke to a tech, he said to bring it in and it would be like a 20 minute thing. Again, I asked if there would be a charge for this, he said no. He sent me to the scheduling person to schedule an appointment, for the third time, I asked if there would be a charge for this and she said NO as well.

Today I take my truck in to get this fixed and the service person say that it will be $143 for them to diagnose it and fix it. I told him about the 3 responses I got from three different people and he said "we have to pay our techs". I said I want my truck and I'm leaving, he then went to the Service Manager and the manager said that I could contact the dealership I bought it from to see if they want to get involved. I took my truck and left.

So basically if you spend $100k at this dealership it doesn't matter. If the navigation was already purchased they want more money when THEIR software breaks it. How many other people have been screwed out of $143 to get their Navigation activated AGAIN after they have already paid for it?

I have sent an email to the GM of this dealership and filed a BBB complaint because I feel this is a scam and they are making a crap ton of money off of people for something that has already been paid for and something that the radio should be able to retain if it get updated/reset. What a joke.

Sent a PM, she sent me a form to go get the VIN and radio version and request code along with the phone number to call and they gave me the activation code, went to the truck and put it in and I have my navigation back!!!!

Thank you so much Andrea! You saved me a lot of stress. I just wish this kind of stuff would get filtered down to the Service Departments at the dealerships so they don't charge people to activate their navigation when this happens.

Thanks again! :bananalama:

I had a similar issue when working out the details on my new truck one thing that was to be included in the deal was the activation of the nav included in the final sale price. Well long story short they never did activate it as promised and after the truck was paid for and delivered all of a sudden no one remembers that promise. After a few calls I just gave up as I was getting no where but getting mad.

You gotta make them sign that stuff. When I negotiated slush mats into the deal on my Ram, they brought out a piece of paper they signed saying they agreed to include them in the deal at no additional cost

Yeah your right I should have but they did everything else like adding the back up camera and floor mats etc but for some reason their memory got bad when it came to turning on the NAV. I should have checked the truck BEFORE I wrote a check for the full amount but I was told it was done and did not think to look for a few days because of the excitement of a new truck. They may have sold me a truck but they have lost a customer and because of it I have been using the other dealer in town for parts and service as I have three Mopars so their loss. I doubt it costs the dealers $500 for that code to turn that function on. Not the end of the world but it is disappointing that they would pull that crap. I know from my business sometimes you just need to do what's right even if you take it on the chin a little bit. Again their loss as I have spent a fair amount at the other dealer since.

We just recently purchased our first Ram 2500 and its a 2017 but one would think that at this point in time that Navigation would be standard on these trucks as we keep paying the inflated prices yet the options they keep making us pay more for. Best truck I have owned but not the best outfitted truck I have ever owned.
