Good afternoon all. I am new to the forum and appreciate any and all your wisdom and consideration.

I went from an 11 F150 ecoboost that was amazing and really liked the ram interior and ride so I decided to try out the new 19 Ram limited (Purchased 8/30/18). My first impression has not been pleasant by any means since I wasn't even able to drive it off the lot without an issue. I took delivery of the truck and drove around to the front of the dealership and the thing just took off and accelerated on its own. stomped on the brakes and all kinds of lights came on. The dealer took the truck in to service and a week later it was supposedly fixed. They replaced the Foot pedal assembly.

Had it back just over 24 hours and my wife was driving it home with myself and my two young children during rush hour traffic and the thing just took off again. Luckily my wife was able to pull to the shoulder and get on the brakes. multiple lights came on again.

I jumped in the driver seat after we pulled off and placed in park. engine did not rev but when placed back in drive it wanted to take off. turned the truck off then on and it was derivable with the check engine light on. Took it straight to the dealer. Its now over a week later and still nothing. The tech at the dealer got it to do it again, but when a Chrysler engineer came in they could not get it to duplicate.

Chrysler still wont call me back now over 2 weeks of calling customer service directly and the dealer wont take the truck back or really do much to help me out. My trade was gone right away and they pretty much said its up to Chrysler.

Any one else have this issue or any advice on what to do? $64k + truck and I am stuck with nothing, but a hefty loan payment coming up.

Adaptive cruise control would be a logical guess. Only a matter of time before AI takes over the weak.

I'm surprised they gave you back the truck considering the whole fiasco Toyota had a while back with unintended acceleration.

Aside from lemon lawing it you should be able to return a vehicle within 30 days for a refund.

This sounds like an engine control software (PCM issue)

Call Ram Customer Care & get a STAR CASE going, if they have not started one already

Always talk to the dealership employees & FCA representatives with respect & a smile
( even if you really want to rip someones head off )

I would be would insist on a Loaner vehicle or a free rental

Keep a log of the number of days since purchase
How many days it has been parked at night in your driveway & how many days they have had it,
How many times they told you that it was fixed & how many times that you have had to return it for the run away acceleration

Toyota's main issue was actually a used Loaner car, where the family was lost in the accident

It had been loaned to that Law Enforcement Officer & his family
The issue was that it had TWO floor mats in the front drivers side & one of the mats slid under the gas pedal & jammed it in the wide open throttle position

The Brake Pedal circuit did not function correctly, it should have released the throttle, like when you step on the Brake when the vehicle is in Cruise Control mode
The only thing that the driver could have done was to put the vehicle in Neutral & he apparently panicked & forgot that

There had been a few other minor quiches, but there were several other reports of run a way Toyotas reported, but most of them were actually speeding drivers trying to convince an officer that their Toyota had accelerated for some reason.
Of course because it was a Safety issue, the Officers had the vehicle towed to the closest dealership
Those owners forgot that newer vehicles have a Black Box, called a Data Event Recorder & in reality is Silver in color

I've called the Ram customer FCA hotline the Day after I bought the truck and the very first incident. They still haven't called me back. We will see what happens tomorrow. Needless to say this ordeal was enough to scare my wife to not want me to drive the truck.

I'm surprised customer care hasn't called you back. I've had excellent service from Ram. My last truck was in the shop for an engine replacement under warranty and after discussing the inconvenience and fact that I'm paying for a truck that I didn't have due to the engine issue, I got reimbursed for two lease payments. Obviously I had a loaner the entire time, but that isn't the point. I would call FCA and ask for a status.
Good luck and I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Dependig on the time in shop, you may be coming up on Lemon Law applicability soon.

This is dealership specific, AFAIK there is no federal protection or "cooling off" or "right to cancel" protection (typically a 3 day period) applicable to new vehicles.

I've never had an issue with my vehicles so I haven't looked very far into it. I thought I read that domewhere, but it may be state dependent

Hi nicksmind,
I am very sorry that you have experienced this. I can understand how concerning this must be. Please send us a private message with your VIN so we can have this documented and looked into further.

The system will not let me send you a PM since I'm new and haven't hit 50 posts yet.
Good Morning.
My Vin# 1C6SRFHT7KN631891
supposedly my issue was escalated last Thursday, but still no call or response from Chrysler. I talked to the dealer service adviser yesterday and they stated an engineer was coming back in and they had another 19 ram with the same issue. This Thursday it will be Three Weeks. Very frustrating as you could imagine and My anxiety has been off the charts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a horrible first year with my 2016 2500. It’s as though it didn’t get finished at the assembly line. The dealer had the truck more than I did for the first five months ( no joke). Chrysler did reimburse me for two payments as well as insurance cost but the first chance I get to invest in a Chevy I will never own another Chrysler product not only for the trouble I had with the truck but with attitude of Chrysler as well. When I first got the truck I was pumped and thrilled with what I purchase but within the first half year I have grown to hate the truck. Even as things improve I get slapped down because of some crap recall. I’ve lost count of how many of those I’ve dealt with. This truck is used for traveling only and has only 11,000 miles on it as the first summer the dealer had it in their shop all summer. I wish I could afford to Just get rid of it. Hopefully soon.

So what actual problems have you had?

update

So I have an update on the issue. Another 19 Ram came in to the dealer with the same issue. So the tech went through and found a severed wire in one of the looms and that same wire was severed on the other truck as well.

I got the truck back and knock on wood hope that's all it was. Still scary deal. Chrysler case manager finally called me to inform me they fixed it and now there is an update out there pertaining to this wire that got severed at the factory.

Love the truck, but this ordeal has kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like I had to pull teeth to get Chrysler to even give me an apology or not to mention any type of compensation. Luckily they are going to reimburse me for half a loan payment. I guess it's better than nothing.

Hopefully safe travels from here on out.

I’m on the third a/c pump, the entire a/c system has been replaced. The first pump seized and left me stranded. The battery went bad and needed replaced. Steering was out of alignment and when that was dealt with the steering wheel seemed to slip on the shaft meaning that it would track good but the steering wheel was not longer aligned when going straight. My rear licence plate screws had been stripped out, rear sliding window seal leaked really bad, missing a few plastic push fasteners for panels under the engine. Along with four plus recalls. All of this with no more than 10,000 on the vehicle. Just when I think things are better and I start liking the truck again I get another recall! Can’t wait for my finances to allow me to buy a Chevy! I owned a 98 C1500 bought new until a drunk took me out that had less time in twenty years go in for any repairs and never left me stranded!

I don't usually hold recalls against the manufacturer; reason being they more often than not are something they found through testing that hasn't affected any or many people yet, and they are putting it out to keep it from becoming an issue. I would expect that they want to determine whether the statistical likelihood justifies a recall for a non-safety-related condition just because they are a business.

Now for something like the Chevy ignition switches that they tried to cover up, or the Toyota frame rust that took a class action lawsuit to bring about, yes I would hold that against the manufacturer. Something like the cruise control possibly not shutting off if the planets align and there's a short circuit I don't-heck I don't even use cruise control.

Especially with airbags because about everyone was getting them from the same manufacturer, that just is what it is. Every company has recalls whether its Ram for dropping tailgates, Chevy for ignition switches, or Ford for doors that come open when you're going down the road and seatbelts that start fires.

Tough for me to argue with you about the recalls but when it has been combined with the other issues that happened to the truck at about the same time, the recalls just added more fuel to the fire, so to speak!

Something is fishy about this................The Dealer should of (for safety reasons and Liability) just gave you a different truck.
I’m sorry that you feel that I am not being truthful. I am truly glad that you have had a better experience. I am an old Mopar Fan. I’ve owned several of them including an older half ton but I am not at all happy with this truck or the company that sold it. I guess I got the short straw on this one. It, by the way has had almost 5,000 miles put on it with no more trouble other than the recalls. Still going to save for the Chevy.

Typically if they come to you you have a three day cooling off period. Say someone were to come to your home, high pressure sell you into a purchase/contract, you have a three day right to recision after you've cooled off. Does not apply if you go to them and experience the same as you are on their turf and have the ability to walk when feeling pressured into a contract. Same applies if you refi your vehicle or mortgage over the phone with your existing lender, three day cool off applies. May not apply in the blue states though...
